Is it ok to run 85 / 140 w gear oil in an SM465? I would like to run one type of oil for my trans and pumpkins.

no. 75w90 or 80w90.

140 is too thick for tranny. 75w140 is a severe service diffs, and if you're not makeing 1000 lbft of torque or pulling heavy heavy trailers all the time. you don't even need that in the diffs. good synthetic 75w90 is what I'd run all the way around if I were you.

I run 75w140 synthetic in my diffs., but I would think it might cause shifting issues when it gets cold. Nissan always told us to change from 80w90 in the 5 speeds to 10w30 motor oil in the winter if customers complained of trouble shifting when cold.

Agreed. The synchros won't like that at all.

I ran heavy **** in my sm465 when it started really blowing out of 3rd. Didnt really make a difference with shifting. Just for like the first two minutes of a ride in the morning.

i had 85-140 and when idling in nuetral especially on cold mornings the truck tries to move foward. Then I went the opposite and put in 50w to stop that during the winter months. Now its 80-90 all the time.
