Greets all.
My poor 85 GMC Jimmy with the Desert storm Veteran Humvee engine has been sitting because I cant afford 1400.00 for new tires AND I dont feel safe driving it.
Its got 33x12.5x15 on it now and I just cant get comfy with it on the road. People bast around here like their all in nascar and I cant be drifting all over the road. It's not raised. The eagle rims have been on it since the 80's
I have a set of Rodeo rims that appear to fit... will they take the weight for road use and what size tire should I use for everyday street driving? Or since I don't have a grand to spend (more like 2500) on new proper rims and tires, do I have to give up and sell it? Living almost hand to mouth so no luxury suggestions please. It is sup post to be our "escape from florida by force" vehicle and I really should be driving it.
In my area the proper set of 4 steel gmc rims is 1200 by itself, tires are 1500. The junkyards are picked clean by armies (literally ) of both mexican and hatians who send the parts out of the country. All the 80's blazers, gmcs, and broncos are coming back on the street pieced together (By American drivers) so parts are unavailable. Van and truck parts are scarce in the junkyards as they pick large numbers of the same type part on a daily basis. In some cases they are pulling small parts that make the bigger part useless to someone like me, then sending a team to pull the bigger parts later.
Seems like there's a theme around here in FLA with Americans digging these out of their backyards and putting them back on the road rust, patches and all. Older pickups and beat up wranglers too. Havent seen any VW Things as yet.
Thanks for any realistic suggestions.
