Can My 1990 Suburban 350 with a 700R4 Transmission get to 80 mph without the engine throwing a rod?

When it feels like the front end is coming apart on you. But if your tires are balanced and you don't feel any vibration approaching 80 then I'd say you won't get it. Worn tie rod ends, ball joints, bearings are the main cause. I was just kidding mostly

Yeah you shouldn't have any problems hitting 80 mph. I used to bury the speedo needle on my dad's '85 Burb with a carb'd 350 and 700R4 when I was in high school lol.

My '78 K5 with the TH350 on the other hand wouldn't go over 70ish with my right foot down as far as the pedal would go. Are you sure the OD is working on yours?

Yes

I'm just afraid to get to 80 although I once in a while get to 75

Yes, at 70mph you will certainly not throw a rod. If you hit 71, even just for a second, a rod will come flying through the firewall and bonk you right in the noggin.

Seriously?

I mean.... it was kind of fun at first.... unbelievably retarded threads being made, but now it's just getting dumber of which I didn't think could get dumber.

First at least my 6.2 is governed at 4250 so even with a 465 and 4.10s on 31s it will do 80.

My poor old camaro's irrigation motor pulled 3800-4200 for 1500 miles on drag week. Buncha pussys in here.

Do you have TunerPro RT or similar? Do you know someone that might have said program? If so, do a datalog with someone. You can see the MPH, Tach and also see if your TCC is working. You can also see several other items of interest such as how is your engine "really" running.

Or, it's not hard to hook up a tach, and use a gps system to watch the mph.

If you're running 35's on stock gearing, you could be torching the 700r4. And your rev rate should be low.

I was just wondering in general because I'm curious of reaching 80 or 85 without any engine trouble. I have overdrive and the closest I got was 75 mph.

Due to the fact that vehicles and trucks today can easily reach 100 or above with no problem

I lived dangerous today...I actually hit 68 mph!!!

But seriously, relax. There's no magic number that makes a trucks engine come apart. My 86 can do 100, although in its present state I would be foolish to do it. It has a worn out suspension, and is in serious need of a XJ steering shaft mod.

There's a lot to learn. Hell, I've been around and driven these trucks since I started driving and I still learned a lot by being here. Don't take any criticism or remarks get to you. This is without doubt THE #1 place to learn how to mod and fix our kind of trucks.

So, read up on past projects and mods. That's your homework assignment. :waytogo:

In my experiance the engine is the last thing you have to worry about, you just need to be sure your truck is safe to travel at those speeds and you do it safely ,engines like to spin:)
