Can someone read a gear pattern for me?

i had many a fine hour spent at the craft shop on ft irwin.when i had my 67 impala i was swappin engines and trannys every other week to try to keep it road worthy.then sold it for my blazer and same thing.10 bucks an hour for a lift bay to work on your ride, you cant go wrong with that.i wish they had something like that in the civilian world.glad you guys got it set up right finally.its tough to get it right until you do it a few times and get the hang of it.:wink1:

Now we are rather frustrated. We can't find a torque wrench taht will read low enough to set the pinion bearing preload. All the parts stores, Sears and all the local Pawn shops only have them ranging from 120 in/lbs and up. We need single digits. The Snap-on guy didn't even have one(would have cost way to much for one use anyway). We were told try a bicycle shop, but they only have them in their shops, none for sale.

Checking work on Monday to see if we can find one there. If not, ordering one on line.

use a fishing style spring scale...........tie regular white string to the bottom end and wind it up on the pinion. pull. nice and easy. you make your reading AFTER the initial spike in rolling resistance.

absolutely. thats actually how they taught us in college how to do it. very simple.

you know what I mean a spring scale with a hook on each end, and basically an arrow pointer on the measurement scale.

I know what type of scale you are talking about, I didn't know that was how in/lbs were measured. Thank you.

you just have to convert what ever the scale is measure in to in/lbs. sorry I should have mentioned that. the fish scales you can get pretty small so it ranges right where you need it.
