I can't get a good picture down around the cone but can you guys tell anything from looking at these?

They seem a little strange to me. They are in a '96 5.7 vortec.

Looks Ok. It is typically hard to read a plug running on the new pump gas. It will add the red tint. The heat line on the electrode looks right.

Whats up with the two different colors seperated by a line on the insulator in the first pic?

And whats up with all the lines on the insulator in the third pic?

Sorry 2nd pic sux

This is what happens to wood when it is outside and battered with the elements. "Weathered" wood as they call it will turn more of a gray hue, and dries out. Sometimes becoming rotten, not shown yet in this case. This appears to be have been protected on the one corner for part of it's life. Also, there appears to be grass clippings, most likely from a lawn mower, strewn about this wood sample.

Excellent focus on the wooden sample by the way, hope this helps answer your question.

Seriously though, if you put the plug on something solid in color like a piece of paper it would help the focus, the third picture is the only one in focus, the other pics we can't see anything that matters.

Yes. They say AC Delco. You are welcome.

wise guys

best thing to do in your case is this:

use a hacksaw and cut away the threaded body to show the entire porcelain

then throw a piece of paper down and give us another pic

:waytogo:

The color change has to do with the way the flame comes out of the plug gap. If you would have only put a few miles on them one side would be white. The only really good way to do a plug read is to do a plug chop. That means new plugs, run at WOT then while wot shut off the engine with the key. Then pull over and pull a plug and inspect. Otherwise you have half a dozen throttle circuits you are looking at on one plug.

Cool cool, I was just kinda wondering why they had the vericose vain looking thing going on. I wanted to get it dyno'ed anyways but I checked the compression the other day and had the plugs out and just wondered.
