anyone who runs anything thinner then 10w-30 in winter and 10w-40 in summer in an old chevy small block is a fool in my opinion.

Anybody who runs 10W-40 conventional in anything is a fool in my opinion. Do you know anything about oil? Do you realize the amount of additives it takes to make 10W-40?
10W-30 in the winter? Below zero? Seriously? You realize that the majority of wear occurs as startup, right? What basis is there for running 10W-30 in winter when 5W-30 provides better cold startup protection and is the same, "weight" when hot?
I'm not trying to argue here or anything, but your thoughts as to what weight should be run in what engine sure don't seem to have much basis in fact.
Oh and I run 5W-30 year round in my trail rig and it still has about 40 pounds of hot idle oil pressure.
