motor and computer swap-1987 eng and ecm into my 90 sub-90 sub has 700r4 --the 87 motor and ecm cotrolled a 400 tranny-i think i remember earlier shift points on my 700 r4 before the swap-now they seem a little further apart. now they are 17-35-50mph, does a 700r4 have the same shift points as the 400?---ps i have tried a tv cable adjustment and the shift points dont change- am i crazy??

A TH400 IS NOT controlled by any type of ECM. A 700R4 only uses the ECM for TCC lock-up. The TV cable is not something that you "adjust" like with the old TH350 transmissions, the 700R4 you SET the TV cable and then nothing else to do. If the TV cable is not SET properly you will toast the trans pretty quick.

You need the computer for the '90 Suburban, you need lockup in that 700r4 or it will puke burnt fluid. Not a good thing.

yeah i know

i know what the tv cable does -i just reset it to see if it was out of adjustment[which it wasnt]-and i dont want to get rid of or bypass any control systems-i just wanted to know if someone could tell me if the shift points are different on these trannys -from a 2wd 400 [87] to a 4wd 700r4[90]

Ah, i got what you're asking now. Yes the shift points arte no doubt going to be different. It's unlikely to even find two of the same transmissions with the same shift point since there are so many variables.

ok-then

with a light foot on acceleration from 0- do you think 17mph is too long for the first gear to take to shift?
