I built two fiberglass enclosures for shallow mount 8" subs to go in the cab corners (rear) and I'm going to mount either 6.5" rounds or 6x9's above them for mids / highs. However no one makes anything decent in 3.5". Is there room I can just cut into the steel under the dash pad and make a 6x9 or a 6.5" fit up there?

um, no one makes decent 3.5" mids/highs is what you're saying?

have to dissagree with ya there, i had a complete system installed in my truck using some Kicker mids up front(3.5") and 6x9's for the sides in "adapters" to fit in the shallow holes, they sound awesome.

Also Memphis Audio makes a pretty decent speaker as well, ya just have to be willing to spend the money for quality sound.

you might be able to get a 4x6 in there, or a 5 1/4. depends on how/what you want to cut to make room

My Infinities in the dash Scream. They sound great. They aren't putting out any lows, but in a 3.5, what do you expect. With a well balanced system, and/or door speakers, 3.5's should be fine. Either that, or buy a component setup, and put the tweeters in the dash locations. Doesn't seem worth the time/effort to put something else in that location.

What adapters did you use for the doors? I need to get some so i can install my door speakers (which have been sitting for almost 2 yrs now.....)

I was blown away with the difference when i first heard the new speakers for the first time, HUGE difference in sound volume and quality, that was my biggest notice with them.

All i did was have the factory speakers in the corners of the dash replaced with the Kickers and also went from the factory 4x10 in the rear side panels to a Kicker 2-way 6x9, the guy made a carpeted adapter plate to keep a clean look, and had to widen the opening alittle for them to fit, but it's very clean install and extremely much better sounding than what i have ever had in there.

Then of course, add in the 2 - 15" Kicker Comp VR's in there, it can get alittle loud:D

My goal for this setup was not to go TOO overboard, but have as much of the system as hidden as possible, or in factory locations, aside from the coffin of a box in the back behind the seat.

I'm happy with it though.

Lots of babbling on here, sorry, but really i personally believe you would be very happy with a simple aftermarket, higher quality speaker replacement in the factory dash locations, at the corners.

Thats what i did, except in a burb. 6x9's in side panels, 3.5's in dash, planned and never installed 6.5's in the front doors. Add a sub, and it sounds pretty good!

just put some pioneer a6963r's in the back of my camaro on the package tray (1980 camaro) and with the kenwood headunit it sounds awesome, next step is either putting the 4 inch pioner 2 ways up front, or looking into an inifinity or jl or such 3.5. The fronts you only need highs, rear for the lows and bass. Although there is a company that makes bolt on kickpanel speaker mounts for our trucks for 6.5s it really isnt needed, although i may add them into my 83 if i do audio and do 2 6.5s in the kicks and 2 6x9s in the corners, but its not a priority.

that's what i am working with :wink1: :D

new 3.5" in the corner factory locations in the dash, and REPLACED the factory 4x10's with the Kicker 6x9's. MUCH better sounding setup.

Yep.

Running 100watts a channel to the 6x9's, and running a JL 12w3 for bass. Does the job!

400 watt / 4-channel Memphis Audio amp, running the corners, and then the 1500watt Solid Audio amp running at 1 ohm, pushing 2 15" Kickers.

funny thing is, i really don't even use it to what it's capable of doing anymore, it's all there now just taking up space, but proving excellent sound quality :D

Okay, I've been convinced.
Now for my last dumb question (of the day).
I'm running a set of marine speakers in the box of the truck (just cause), they are being run off the signal from the front speakers, then through a 400/4 channel clarion amp. I would like to put a toggle in the line so I can shut them off at will.

Will there be an issue in shutting off the signal going to 2 of the channels on the amp while the other two channels still receive power?

Way confused. What do you mean an amp running off the signal from the front speakers? are you running some sort of high level input from teh front speakers into the amp?

Why not use the rear outs on the head unit? Or the pre-outs to the amp. Then you can use the fade function of the head unit.

I'm using the rear out (RCA) off the deck for a second amp, which will be subs.
The high level output for the rears will be run to the 4 channel amp to power JL 6x9'a.
The high level output for the fronts will power pioneer 3.5"s, however I want to splice into that signal and send the spliced signal to the 4 channel amp then outside to a set of 6.5" marine speakers.
and I would like the ability to tun the outside ones off

If you deck has RCA outs, DO NOT use high level outputs to the amp. They suck.

How many sets of RCA pre-outs does your deck have? Use these to send signal to your amps, even if this means splitting the signal, or daisy chaining the amps together through pre-outs on the amps.

Personally, IF you only have 1 preout pair, i would run all the interior speakers off the amp (rear preout), the outsides off the front deck output. Then you could fade to rear, and keep only your interior speakers on. Then just link the sub amp to the stereo amp, or split the preouts into each amp.

Skip high level inputs.
