Can you suggest a tire between a MT and a AT

So I need some new tires for my plow/work/hunting truck. Size around a 31" x 10"

I am trying to find a tire somewhere between a AT and a MT. I have the vision of a open tread A/T. I do not put a ton of miles on the truck and I am not looking to spend a lot of money. The Procomp extreme A/T is out because of the price, but that really is what I think I need.

Maybe I should just go with a mud terrain, although I don't think that is ideal for pushing a plow.

This is for a 82 3/4 ton which currently has 33 x 12 x 16.5 A/Ts. I am planning on mounting the new tires on the stock 16 inch wheels.

Any thoughts or suggestions? Maybe the Dunlop Mud Rover?

Take a look at the Dick Cepek Fun Country II's. About as close as you can get between a mud tire and an all terrian. They have a nice tread depth (almost as deep almost radial mud terrians) and excellent tread spacing. I drive on them daily and I think they are great. I have even been driving them in the snow up here and they are doing better than I expected even on a 12.50 width on a 10 inch wide wheel.

I have dunlop mud rovers on my k5. i love the performance and look, but if you don't want aggressive, you don't want them. big tread lugs with big fat voids. they do a great job offroad, but i've yet to try them in the ice. we don't exactly get a lot of that, here. dunlop has a less aggressive rover with more streetable center tread and more aggressive outer.

I would *think* that with a plow, an AT would be much better than an MT. In icy conditions an AT should be better, and with weight an AT would again be better.

I don't know why you'd want to go further from an AT, a "street" tire that they put on the new trucks is going to work even better than an AT for icy road/heavy weight conditions.

I'm guessing maybe you've got to get through some deep stuff to get to some plow locations, thus the desire for something a bit better than the AT's? Only problem I see with my AT's is that they don't self-clean well. Behind a plow is that still an issue?

I hear what you guys are saying the AT would be ideal. However, my truck also has play duties and a few of the spots we go to in the woods involve extended mud crossings. I would just hate to purchase mud terrains and be useless during plow season.

Just came across Kelly and Dayton tires for decent prices. Thanks for the input and keep it coming.

My experience with AT's in snow/ice (not deep stuff) is that the more "mild" the tread pattern, the better off you are. More contact with the ground, better traction.

I think you'd end up feeling that way with MT's and trying to plow.

Probably not economy, but something that's an AT with really aggressive sidewalls MIGHT help?

Well the first thing that came to mind was the Mastercraft C/T's but they are more leaned towards light trucks. I'd look into the Goodyear A/T KO, or the
Goodyear AT/s

Not too sure on price but i've heard good things

Goodyear Workhorses are the way to go.
We had them out our plow truck at work and loved them.
I also ran them on my K10 and my SBlazer, Never had any complants, they are a bit on the spendy side though.

Also your better off with a skinny tire on a plow rather then a fat one. I think ours had 235/85s or something like that.

Laramie Tempra Trailcutter M/T, lots of sipes, good on ice and water. I just took a set of 33's off after 30k miles to put on my 35's. They were still 10/32's and are 19/32's new.

i almost forgot about the tires the PO had on my k5. the general grabber ST. aggressive enough for light wheeling, but much better road manners and wet traction than a mud tire. they handled what little ice we have around here very well.

I was looking for similar to what you are. I just bought a set of Procomp Extreme ATs. They weren't bad on price because I managed to catch the buy 3 get 1 free at 4WP. They appear to be more a bit open than a BFG AT, but I have no idea how they ride yet. They're mounted on rims and laying on the floor next to the truck.
