Alright im cutting the rocker boxes out of my 75 blazer and am going to weld in some 2x6 square channel capped at both ends and im looking for some photos of were I would weld this too and any other tips and tricks.

Doesn't Blazen Offroad have a kit alread made for this same application? Might cost more but what is your time and energy worth?

Been busy just had a few to check, so those blazen off road rockers will replace to rockers as well as the rocker box. So basically welding in that channel would just create a slider right?? Give me some Ideas here

I cut out the existing rocker and replaced it with the Blazen Offroad sliders I won off of this site.

I don't know what the difference would be between the "rocker" and "rocker box". If you look at the link I posted above you can see how I had mine installed, that is how the weld in Blazen Offroad sliders are intended to be installed.

i am in the middle of cutting my rocker boxes out and instsalling rock sliders.

i am just cutting the whole rocker box out and will be welding in 2x3" square tubing and running angle iro braces to the sub frame. and then mounting some rock lights to the angle iron.

You have a convertible right?

The boxes and rocker panels are pretty structural to keep the body intact. Make sure you keep everything braced before you cut them out or your doors will never close again.

Are the rocker boxes really that bad or just the outer skin is bad?

I'm not an expert, but I have replaced my outer rockers and I'd think it would be difficult to replace the whole rocker box with only a 2x3 tube. The rocker box bolts to the body over a large area to keep things straight. The tube might be strong enough, but I'm not sure you have enough area on the body to weld to it.

I might just cut out the rusted portion of the boxes and weld the slider in and tie it into whatever is left of the boxes.

i am also replacing my floors. the rocksliders will be welded to the door frame (if i was done this would be alot easier to explain). angle iron off the back of the sliders to the sub frame, the new floor will be welded to the rock slider (with a piece of angle iron).

i have seen many people replace their floors, and remove the rocker boxes with no issues because your not removing the sub frame which is really what holds your body together.

but yes the rocker boxes were that bad on this blazer. i have a build thread in the 73-91 forum section

if the rocker boxes were that trashed, they probably weren't doing much good as support, anyway.

I've sort of wondered how people get by with converting a half cab to full-vert without installing bracing. I've seen a few like that with no aftermarket roll cages or anything.

I cut mine out and had sliders put in. I used 4x4iron (not around anymore AFAIK). Here are some pics they had on their site at the time:

This is what the sliders look like on my rig. They have tube that bolts to the body underneath. Couldn't find any pics of it. No problem with strength. They're awesome.
