so I've moved into the new place and one of my roomates is a wheeler. his enthusiasm is starting to have an effect on me and I think I may get back into the scene. and since I sold my k5 in the spring, I have to get a new machine.
this is where it gets tough.

I could go with this - '80 3/4 BBC with New tires, parking cables, carburetor, ball joints, all u-joints, springs and u-bolts, bed mounted hitch, class V towing hitch, HD rear bumper, Dana 60 front, corp.14 rear, NP205 T/C, TH350 auto trans. Runs perfect. 92,000 km.

or I could pick up another K5, '87 305, auto, fuel inject., CD, new shocks, gas tank, windshield and tires. Hard top included. 220 000km

both are approx. the same price. Just looking for some input here ...

I would buy the 80 3/4 ton. Dosen't sound like it has a 60 front if it has new ball joints.

fyi...love your avatar.

probably not a dana 60, but go with the 1980.

less miles, sorry I meant kilometers.

Gotta agree with the other guys, unless you need the cab space of a k5. I'd go with the 80 3/4 ton. Also IMHO a 305 can't even compare to a BB

The 80 K20 is going to be more of everything- more size, more strength, more gas consumption. If you have another vehicle to drive daily, or if you just don't care about getting single digit MPG, then I would definately give it the nod, particularly with that low of mileage. You've already owned a K5, so you know what to expect. It will be easier to live with in town, and will probably be more economical to drive. The EFI is nice too, and 220K is what, somewhere around 130K miles? That's not very much. Keep in mind that the 3/4 ton must not be original if it really is a BBC/ TH350. That being said, I'd probably go with the '80 if you're going to lift it and wheel it.

edit: If the '80 really has a Dana 60, it's a no-brainer.

Chevy Dana 60's have kingpins instead of balljoints.

I also would go with the pickup. And like has been said if it has ball joints the front end is a 10 bolt or a Dana 44 NOT a 60

well, I'm going to look at a few trucks this weekend.
another k5 showed up in the trader last night as well, so its on the list now too!!!

'83 k5 blazer with '77 350. 4 bolt mains. 700R4 trans, 208 TCase, 1 ton diff., 14 bolt rear, Dana 44 front. spicer hubs, 456 gears, 36" swampers.

Wish me luck.
