Half speed would make it easier to have more teeth. I think your underestimating the sensor...
Hey Dave, FWIW, the vortec blocks are the same as earlier 350`s....all they did was change the heads. The only other difference was 2 or 4 bolt mains.
That Vortec timing cover should work just fine.

Wow, that`s the first time i`ve seen that...then again, i don`t see that many vortec timing coversI'm sure the old SBC does not have alignment pins in the timing cover like the Vortec timing cover does? See the arrows. I'm sure there will always be enough silicone sealant at my local auto parts store to fix a Vortec timing cover oil leak.![]()
The Weswood Performance HEI looks good. I'm leaning toward a design that uses off the shelf factory electronic parts. Might be easier to find a factory electronic part late at night, in the middle of nowhere that way?![]()

Maybe the special bolts are a challenge?I have not tried this conversion, so I'm still learning.
