cant find a trailer hitch need help

back in the day thay were all over . but todays internet search engines giving you every thing BUT what you type in . i can find but 1 hitch for 250 or so shipped.

looking for a 2" class 3-4 hitch that fits behind roll pan on a c10 2wd truck. want one behind my burban bumper i am installing on the 2wd project truck build .

if i cant find one i guess i got to modify 1 i have thats almost new from a junked full size car rew years ago. but if i can buy / bolt on / go that would be great.

anyone got info on were to buy new ? ? ?

they have stuff at walmart...The hitch and receiver. Would that work?

hiddin hitch use to be the #1 back in the day . thay now are just a name and dont show any HIDDIN hitches .

and walmart sucks and most of there stuff is light duty bolt together universal.

On price. I had mine installed at a body shop for 250 total with the hitch and the work. They also hooked in the splitter cable in the wiring so I didn't have to chop the harness to put in the pigtail for trailer lights.

these are kind of custom market not off the shelf stuff at every mom n pop store.

and i know all about installs. i do them for a living . but we just dont have a line on this style hitch.

ya prob what i am going to have to do. i got one from a 90's ford crown vic like brand new and its center hitch welded already so prob going to cut down ends and weld on reg truck plates and be good to go.

just getting tired of fab and want to paint / drive this thing.

I found some smaller places that have various stuff, but no one seems to show how it looks on a truck.
I'm guessing you are looking for one for the '85?

My problem is, I have not bought a factory trailer hitch ever. I used to have a friend who built custom built trailers for a living, and he also installed trailer hitches.

Whenever I needed a hitch, I just drove over to his shop, and his guys grabbed a bunch of tubing stock and fabbed a custom hitch on the spot.

I think I have helped install a couple of draw-tites, and some other brand, but it was stuff other friends bought for me to bolt on.

I see the pics you posted, but I'm not clear about what is special. What should I be looking for?
I get that it comes out through the bumper, but is there any way to tell without seeing it on the truck?

most reg hitches the center is on the bottom of the cross tube. and this lets the 2" section drop out just under the bottom of the bumper.

the real orignal true hiddin hitches for roll pan's and behind bumpers the center sections in the middle or on top of the tube and also the mounting plates at the frame sit closer to the bottom of the frame rails and not hang down as close to the ground like reg hitches. and it lets the 2" section come out in the plate area of the roll pan or bumper on 2wd style like i am going to run.

pic of truck = style bumper i am running . more comon used on burbans or blazers. some trucks had them but not a lot from what i have seen. i am going to cut hole in plate box and use a caprice rear plate flip unit thats spring loaded to hide it .

pic left = reg style every day hitch.

pic right = hiddin / roll pan hitch .

ya 250 is kind of crazy price from reg stuff. if the sir mic is the only one left these days then i will make my own for that price point .

If you took a standard hitch and relocated the receiver tube from the bottom of the main tube to the top, would that put it in the right place? I don't know how much ground clearance you have, but modifying some random used hitch might be a lot easier than starting from scratch.

side plates for our trucks hitches would be a bit close or low.

i just dug out the almost new one i have from a car thats wider than our frames. going to cut off the extra and make 2 new mount plates for the side and weld up and bolt on.

will get pics of my setup soon in the 2wd build thread.
