i looked under the truck and saw this number sequence right by the bell housing on a lip. 1552212 and the number 4 was circled. what does this mean? is it the wrong number? i need to find out whats in this thing!!! PICS WOULD HELP

I don't have any pictures but on both of my SBC motors the casting number was on the driver side rear of the motor. It was just "underneath" where the head was, in between the tranny bolts.
It sounds to me like you have the right number.

So how do you think i would go about finding out what this thing is? i guess it could be anywhere from a 305 to a 400 who knows its a blue engine so im assuming its a replacment.

ok let me go check should i go from under neath or what? also is it facing the fire wall:doah: because if so a screw that.! just let me know

hell yeah i just went out there in the dark with a half lite flash light and cant even see the back of the block. its not an original engine whats why im curious to see what it is. do you know the exact coordinace of this number? what was that first number i listed any thoughts???

Both my 305 and my 350 have casting numbers on drivers side.
My 305 says "305" right after the casting number. I don't know for sure how to cross reference the casting number.
I googled for a list of numbers and my number just happened to be on a list.

You should be able to find the info here. I saved this to my "favorites" awhile back. Great Chebby motor info.:D scroll down. let us know what you have.

Get the suffix code. Passenger side front of motor, where the head meets the block. If you look straight down behind the alternator (assuming your alternator is in that position) you will see the flat block surface that the suffix code is stamped into. It is the ONLY code that tells you year, application, HP, etc.
