I have a pair of Tuff Country EZ Ride 4" lift springs on the front of my '85 half ton. They started squeaking real bad, so i took them off and disassembled the spring packs to paint them and replace the bushings and stuff. Thing is, I can't find the Teflon wear pads for them. They were all either trashed or missing, thus the squeak. I ordered some pads that were supposedly replacements for the stock rear leaves, but the tabs on them were too big for the holes on the Tuff Countries. I tried shaving them down but they broke when i tried to press them in.:doah: Then I ordered some that were for Skyjacker brand springs, but they have square tabs on them that are way too big.

So has anyone ever replaced the Teflon pads between the leaves of a Tuff Country spring pack? I called the place that i got the springs from (ORD), but they can't get them. I called Tufff Country a while back. The guy said he would get back to me but never did.

There are a lot of variations, so Tuff Country would be the place to go. If they are tough to deal with, let us know and we should be able to make it happen.

Thanks Chris. I'll call TC on Monday. I got the bushings and stuff today that you sent me, so I was pretty bummed when I couldn't finish the job. This is starting to look like a ploy by TC to get me to buy some new springs from them. Those rascals. I need to have this truck back together by Feb. 6 but I don't know if it's going to happen.

I finally was able to get the proper Teflon wear pads so I can get my spring packs put back together. Big thanks to Chris at Off Road Design. I called Tuff Country again and talked to 3 different people but I couldn't get any response to my questions, so I called Chris and he got back to me the next day with the right part number and even told me the cheapest place to get them from. I only paid $1.95 per pad! Chris is the man. In fact everyone I've ever dealt with at ORD has been great - not just Chris, but the Watsons also. Thanks again and good luck at King of the Hammers (if you're going this year).

In the pic, the pad on the left is the sole survivor of the original group of pads. The next one is the proper replacement pad. The third is one that was advertised on Amazon as being for the "rear springs of GM trucks". And the one on the right is one I got from Summit that's for Skyjacker brand springs. In case you need the right pad for your Tuff Country springs, the part number is Teflon-05. It's also called an N97 wear pad.

Glad you found em.

Along the same lines, I recently rebuilt my springs. There were no pads in sight, so I lined the friction points with UHMW-PE strips from McMaster-Carr. I know they will reduce friction phenomenally well. Just don't know if they'll last. We'll see.

That's cool. I wonder how long they'll last vs. the stock setup. I'll have to post some pics of mine tomorrow after I'm done. I used some graphite paint on them called EZ Slide. It's meant to go on blades and stuff on farm equipment. I think it's similar to Slip Plate. I put it on there to resist friction, but it also sheds water like crazy. I hope it makes a difference.

I got them from Suspension Connection. That's where Chris from ORD said to go because it's Tuff Country's official store or whatever. I called them and told the guy I wanted 8 of the Teflon-05 part number and what they were for. It took him a minute but he had no problem putting in the order for me. They have a $10 shipping charge, so it was about $25 total. I normally like to order stuff like that over the phone so I have a better chance of getting what I need.

So there they are. Ready to go back under the old death trap. Notice the weird gray color. That's what color that EZ Slide graphite paint is. We'll see how long it lasts. All I put under it was primer. Now I'm wondering if I should have slapped a coat of paint on there before the graphite. Oh well.

Thanks guys! I'm about to swap in a rear and shackle flip, had no idea there may even be a situation like this. Now if mine squeaks I'll know what to do!

how are they holding up, I just got a gallon of slip plate today.

Man they still look new. The only places there's some very slight rust are where I scratched them a little while I was putting them in. No squeaks. I need to do the rear springs now. They're getting pretty bad.

That's what I used. Got it at TSC. Don't waste your time with the spray can version. It won't spray. No telling how long they'd had it on the shelf when I got it though. Ended up getting a quart after the spray bombs failed. Just had to stir it up real good several times. I should have gotten them to put it on their paint shaker.
