I have an 84 k10 with a th350 and a 3 inch body lift. The shifter is adjusted so that it works properly when the truck is level. Other stuff too, but those are the relevant bits.

My problem is that when off road when I get the truck twisted up it will pull my shifter either up a gear or two or down, depending on which way the truck is flexing. Some times bringing it from drive to reverse or the other way around, and commonly putting it in neutral.

I'm looking for any advice to held reduce or eliminate this problem. Thanks guys.

I would look at your body, motor, and trans mounts. Sounds like either the body is flexing from the frame, or the transmission and motor are twisting somehow.

This is inevitable...the only way to hinder it is solid mounts all the way around. Engine, trans and body. Then you have to deal with doors that don't close, cracked windows...etc. a cable Shifter is the way to go. Lokar makes a universal cable for the th350 and it will work with the Colum shifter.

x2 time for new and also just go poly like energy suspension offers.

skip the generic store crap as thay fit almost as bad as the old stuff.

you dont need solid body mounts or engine / tranny mounts. thay brake stuff.

a buddy of mine years ago with 3" body had worn out motor and tranny mounts and it would pop in to nutral on him if off road flexing. we put in new mounts and no more problems.

Also do you have headers? When i put headers on i took it for a drive to test the new motor and when i got on it the engine rocked enough that it caused the headers to hit the linkage and it shifted into neutral and damn near shifted it into reverse at wot :eek1: (and that was with new motor and trans mounts) i bent the linkage up some and all is well now. But that cable sounds way easier and less headaches.

Thanks for all the info guys. Looks like I'm looking at poly engine mounts (mine need to be replaced anyway) and the cable from lokar. The factory body support grommets are in good shape and the body lift itself is made from aluminum.
