Swapping out my Grant wheel for a 90's truck wheel. The wheel will only go on so far. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong but I've chased the splines with a file to get the old crud out. I've got another 1/8" to go before the splines are flush. I've torqued on it like it were a lug nut, just coming up to the line between stupid donkey and just right. :doah:Also, I've got a washer under the nut, I don't like grinding.

How is the space between the column and the wheel itself? I just swapped in a 92 wheel and removed a grant and it went on no problem. I can not recall if the splines were flush, but I would think that as long as you torque the nut properly there is plenty of spline contact in the picture you posted.

fyi guys tappered spline shaft .

press / wedge fit . thats why you need a puller to pop it loose then it just falls off.

yeah, I get that, but it doesn't seem to go on very far. My Grant adapter went on more. I don't remember my original wheel. You know how there is two sets of splines at the top, I'm sure it's only touching one.

Meh, I'm gunna run it as is.

The splines do not sit flush with the wheel hub. That pic is about as far as it should go.

Yep. There should be a gap between the base of the wheel and the column, that's why the lock plate has a plastic trim cover on it, so you don't see the ugliness when everything is put together.

Looks great! My buddy took that exact same steering wheel off his 94' crew cab when he bought it brand new. Has had it stored for years. I've asked if I could have it a couple few years ago, but he wasn't ready to give it up just yet. Well he finally sold the crew cab and bought a new one so he didn't need it any more and gave it to me just a couple weeks ago. It's brand new and will be going on my K5 too :waytogo:. I like the bigger diameter of it vs the aftermarket wheels.

As far as I am concerned, that is the best steering wheel available for these trucks.

Found one in a local yard today. Going back for it tomorrow with the right tools. Hopefully it's still there. I'm guessing they all use a 13/16" socket?
