I don't really feel like cutting up the rear of my truck and making a shock hoop. So last night I was trying to fall asleep and thought of a cantilever setup. Then I remembered petersons 4x4 did it on their z71.

I have some left over edelbrock ias shocks that I will use for now. Down the road I'll get some custom valvable shocks.

I think the edelbrock shocks are 8" stroke so I need to make it a 2:1 ratio to get 16" of travel.

Now I just need to find durable pivot point and get drawing on cad.

Cool idea, but is it really worth the effort? Isn't the shock going to need to be twice as stiff (or 1/2.....my brain isn't working) to function properly?

Doing some research it will need to be 4x as stiff. The edelbrocks will be a little weak, but they are still stiffer than the el cheapos.

I'm going to build the shock mount width to the width of a king bypass shock. 8" bypasses aren't too expensive used.

The most expensive this will probably be the pivot assembly, I may just have a delrin bushing machined and call it good. The heims would be pretty cheap if I only used 1/2"

I think it would be worth it. If I ever used it as an expedition rig I would have full use of the rear. I decided not to cut it up and try and make it into a hardcore rock rig. I Just want something like you could use on the ultimate adventure. I'll save the hardcore stuff for a buggy build.
