Cap or shell nuts spinning

Is there any good fix for this? Looks like the previous owner got ham fisted with the bolts on the bed rails and some of them are spinning due to the brackets being broken loose. I thought of making my own out of one peice of flat stock per side with x-amount of nuts welded to it and then just tacking it up underneath. ANyone tried something like this?

I just put a nut on the back side of mine.

Is it accessable from under the bed rail? I can't remember.. It might not be too hard to fix if thats the case.

[Hijack/] While we are on this topic, is there a way to repair the cab nuts too? One of the ones on my K5 doesn't grab anymore either... [/hijack]

I have the fix for the bed nuts, 2 x 2 inch peices of flat stock with the nuts welded to them to keep them from spinning. I only use 4 of them anyway and the top is off all summer just about. As for the cab nuts, I have no clue.

while you guys are on this topic, i figured i'd ask, how do you guys deal with the rattling that occurs when the captured nuts bounce around? it annoys the hell out of me, and i can't be the only one bothered by it. it is quite loud sometimes.

You can hear the nuts ratteling around? My K5 has so many squeaks and other noises I never knew the nuts bounced around. Don't think I could even hear them over the exhaust or tires.

i have a pretty solid ride so i notice them quite a bit. i was thinking about putting a little grease in there so they would 'stick' in place but still be able to move to line up with the bolt holes

thats a good idea about threading a short bolt on them. I do notice the noise as well in my K5 and have been thinking about getting rid of all the sqeaks, rattles, noises, etc. some day soon.. its getting new paint now so that will come next I imagine.
