I have a set of Doug's full length headers that came off a 70 Chevelle with a 350. Will they fit on my 76 K5 350? Do the car headers drop down a far as truck tubes? They look they may not clear the lowest part of the floor board under the truck. Anyone have any experience with this?

I think the only way to find out is to try. The drivers side might work, if the collector doesn't dump into the firewall. The pass side might be a little bit of a problem, since the drive shaft is there. Some headers have clearance problems near the shackle on the pass side too. But thats mainly if they're for 2wd and 4wd. Like I said, the only way to find out is to try.

That's the plan, I just figured I'd throw it out here before I tore all the exhaust off the motor. I thought maybe someone would say "no, they wont fit so don't wast your time" or "Yes, I did it and they fit OK"

Thanks!

I run these headers on my 78 k10 and they fit nice. Better than the a set of factory truck long tube headers. These will fit a 70 chevelle too.

These do not come in contact with the shackle like my old long tubes, and they are tucked up nice above the frame rails. I do run a doubler, but i think there is more than enough room with a traditional t case set up.

passenger car headers contact the frame rails from the side to side movement of the engine. if you notched the frame rails or dented the tubes in where it contacts you would probably be okay, but imo is pointless. as for the collectors im not sure if you would run into a problem there or not

If they dump in the exact same plane as the Chevelle pipes , they will clear the floor .

This is the Chevelle down pipes and manifolds off MY 70 project Chevelle , put onto my 75 truggy K5 . I am pretty sure headers would fit if these do , I have all kinds of space between the floor and the Chevelle pipes as bolted to the motor . Remember headers for Chevelles would line up with the pipes under the Chevelle :

Thanks Pauly !

We all could use a friend that "has pictures to prove it"...

how did this turn out...? i've got a set of headers from my '70 chevelle that i don't plan on putting on my '72, and i do need some exhaust work on my truck... so for free headers, i don't mind making hammer marks in the tubes to make them work... yay or nay...?!

Here's the verdict:

The headers from the Chevelle drop down plenty to clear the floor of the K5 and they are very close to the trucks frame rails and probly could hit if the motor mounts are worn out or you get a lot of torque twist. Notching the frame or pounding a small dent in the one offending tube could get you by.
But heres the catch, the length and size of the collector on the Dougs headers I have interferes with the shackle on the rear of the spring. Keep in mind I do have extened shackles 6" long eye to eye. So no go on the Dougs Chevelle headers,

untill I go over-board with a four link and coilovers that is...

i've got some 'blackjack' brand headers, do you happen to have measurements of the 'dougs' ones...? if not, don't worry about it... i've got the stock shackles on my K30 and they'll stay that way, maybe someday i'll get the ORD 1/2" longer ones... only trying will tell if it works, right...!?

I had a set of hooker competition headers off of my 70 Chevelle that I tried to put on my 74 K5. They bolted on nicely, but the passenger side was VERY close to the front driveshaft. Too close for comfort.
