Carb Not Getting Fuel

I drove my K10 last night without any problems. This afternoon I tried to start it and it would fire but not run. The carb no longer pumps gas out of the 'nozzles' in the primaries when I work the throttle. What should I do? The fuel filter isn't plugged, and I tapped all around the front of the carb because a buddy told me the float could be stuck. I need the truck this weekend, so I would like to avoid rebuilding the entire carb if possible. Thanks.

Pull the fuel line off the carb and put it into a bottle and crank the engine to see if fuel comes out. If no fuel then either your tank is empty or the fuel pump went bad on you. There is the possibility of a bad neoprene fuel line anywhere between the tank and fuel pump as well so don't forget to check for any leaks there first.

mechanical fuel pump?

make sure it's getting fuel... take the line off the carb and stick it in a coffee can, peanut butter jar, something... pull the coil wire off and crank it over some...... or better yet, throw a fuel pressure tester in it... neater....

:haha:

must be getting slow in my ole age... i owe ya a beer for that one...

I will test the fuel pump, the rubber lines are new from when I went through the fuel system last month (new tank and sender). Forgive my ignorance, where is the coil wire on my truck? My distributor has the square coil in the middle. It is a 1978 model with the 400 sb.

Since you have HEI just pull the wire (10 ga) that goes into the cap that says BATT, the engine will not start now since that is what powers the coil.

I'm going to assume that when you replaced the "rubber lines" you did use fuel hose? If you used standard rubber hose then that could be your problem as rubber and fuel do not mix and the rubber will deteriorate and clog up everything in it's path.

I purchased the fuel hose from O'Reillys. I have a clear inline filter that is very clean. I removed it and blew through it just to be sure it wasn't plugged up. I will let you all know the results of the fuel pump test.
