I have an 83 K5 with 350 motor. My mechanic went over my carb and it's still running bad. Do I get a new carb or go fuel injection? If carb, what brand/model do you recommend? If fuel injection, what are my options and costs?
Thanks in advance...

Go to your nearest junkyard, and pull every bit of TBI off of a truck, hell get the belt drive system too, and probably spend less than 300$ overall. May have to buy sensors, may not have too, just depends on their shape and so on. Easiest, cheapest way to go, and beats any carb hands down on any playing field except maximum HP.

MSD Atomic fuel injection......they have a CARB exemption now for 85 and older Chevy.

The TBI route is going to be the cheapest if your truck is relatively stock and you plan to keep it that way.

Carbs are easier to install, but when it comes to cold starting, drivability, off-road use, fuel economy, and pretty much every other metric that matters in running an engine, they are inferior.

Upgrading to a newer motor with all the sensors is fine, downgrading is the problem.

Yes an entire engine swap to something newer from the same family of engines and the same displacement or larger but you can't just slap TBI on an old engine.
I've done both. I put a stripped down TBI on my old small block as well as a smog legal TBI swap on a friend's jeep.

Edelbrock

I purchased edelbrock's offroad carb last year, and I really like it. It really works well off the road when my truck gets at awesome angles! So if you go off into hills I'd recommend it. Cost was good and install was easy.
