first with the story...

ok, so today i went out to Angola Prison in St. Francisville, LA to go on a pre run for the hummer dealership that i work for. well i took my jimmy just so that i'd have something different. i meet up with the other guys that were going on the run with me, 3 were driving jeeps and the other was in a H2 SUT. had to have an escort the entire way since it was on the prisons property and the inmates were working outside, clearing 4wheeler trails and such.

well we got about 1/4 of the way through with the trail and we got to a spot were there was a drop off with some mud at the bottom and then you had to climb back up the other side. well everyone goes through the easy part of that part (there was 4 different ways to go) well i picked the one that wasn't quite the hardest one but probably the next one down, then everyone says "hey stop, come over on this one" which was the harder one, so due to peer pressure i backed back down the hill and went for the harder one. while i was on my way up the truck started bounce so since i don't have a spare axle and i'm running 10 bolts i decided to stop (which wasn't a good idea). well when i stopped the truck stalled on me b/c of the steap incline and my carb. i rolled back down into the what was now a mud pit and tried to start it. well it would crank put it ran like doodoo, figured i fouled a few plugs since the truck wouldn't even stay running. well they didn't want to wait for me to pull the plugs and clean them, and since i was at a prison the warden wouldn't let me stay myself to fix it and catch up, so i rolled up the windows and locked the doors so an inmate couldn't get inside if they stumbled across it.

so i had to get a ride in the back of a jeep, but i guess it was ok since it was a 53 willy's jeep. well the next bbig obstacle we got to was a HUGE mud pit, and that was the thing that i was looking forward to. well we got the hummer burried to the frame and it had to be pulled out be one of the jeeps. but none of the jeeps would go into it. well the guy that i was riding with hurt his hand and asked me to drive the jeep the rest of the way, so i guess that was ok, but i had to drive a jeep.

well when we got done with the trail it was almost dark so we went back to get my truck out. i went down to it and cranked it up, well it still ran like **** and i had to put it in neutral and hold my foot on the gas just to keep it running, while 2 jeeps hooked up to me to pull me out.

well once we got back to the gate i decided i'd try and drive her back, for awhile i was blowing black smoke out the exhaust but after awhile of me getting down to around 40 mph then jumping on it making the tranny downshift into 2nd gear it cleared up, and now it runs like it did before

well that's the end of the story, and no i don't have any pics but i'm going back tomorrow and i'll be driving a H3 and i'll be taking pics.

here's the question...
is there anything i can do to the carb to keep it running when i get on an incline or off camber???

i've got a performer 650 cfm carb on top of the performer intake that's feeding my wallored out 305

Get the off road (truck avenger) cross over vent tube and lower your float bowls. That is what I did and it made a world of diff.

well if there's anything that i can do to this carb that's what i'd like to do

the reason being i have a tpi setup that i'm gathering parts for and would rather put the cash in that than into another carb

Get that carb off , and either got injection like you want , or Quadrajet . Furthermore , after shes on flat ground , you can rev it a few times , and leave her running to idle it out . Usually good to go after a few minutes .

Ya dude it just floods out and bogs. You have to go full throttle to clear it up sometimes then it runs just like it normally does.

Also I think 650cfm is too big for a 305. My 305 has a 600cfm Holley 4160 and that is pushing it. My float bowls are lowered slightly and I lean it out slightly, SLIGHTLY...

I love my Holley  there is an infinate amount of tunability.

I love Holleys too , on cars :thumb:

I am still debating running the 0-1860 I got ( 4160 style vac secondaries man choke ) or the Quadrajet I got from 78suburban ( old divorced choke style ) on my Chevelle .

But on the Blazer its Quadrajet :pimp: It just plain works !
