I was thinking about getting a carb. spacer to put under my q-jet. Do they really do anything as far as low end torque, and possibly fuel mileage if you get the spiral kind? Or are they just a waste of money?

I think they are just a waste of money. The only way a spacer would possibly increase your fuel milages is by keeping the fuel in the carb a bit cooler than sitting on the hot manifold.

just my 2 cents
cheers
Matt

carb spacers will help higher in the rpm range, if anything you lose on the bottom end....

Think of how a tunnel ram works, and it's operating range...

My experience with these has been varied. It depends on each motor from what I have found. My k5 runs better with it, my race car doesn't car, 4 hole spacer or open. If you can borrow one to test with is your best bet.

I just put a carb spacer on my 454 to help with a fuel percolation problem
it cured that, but I did lose a little on the lower end. I havent noticed any improvement in MPG's, but my gauge doesnt work, so who knows?
As far as i know, I still get 10 MPG's
