i am wanting to switch my carb to tbi fuel injection. i found a donor truck. it's a 90 1/2 ton 2wd with a 350 tbi. i can pick it up for 200. it runs but dies out. what all do i have to do to convert my carb to tbi? do i have to switch intakes? i'm running an edelbrock performer and carb. tired of it dying out on hills. tried everything, offroad needle and seat, adjustable fuel regulator and it still runs rich. what sensors will i need? my truck is an 82. thanks for the help.

I've done the conversion and it's not that hard. I'd keep your carb manifold and just get an adaptor for the TBI.

You'll need all the sensors attached to the TBI along with the knock sensor, the fuel pump relay and pressure sensor, EGR, MAP, coolant temp sensor. Most of that is on the intake or right next to it.

You're best bet is to take the wiring harness from the fuse block forward and everything attached to it.

buy the truck for 200. pull all the tbi stuff. scrap the rest. then take cash from that buy stand alone wire harnness. and adaptor for intake. and bolt on and go. dont forget the dist. its diffrent than carb.

then get a chip from brian www.tbichips.com and pop in a o2 sensor bung and upgrade to a 3 wire o2 and be done with it. external pump just off the tank and return line and bam all done.

if it was me and the doner ran super swap in the whole motor and then plug and play harrness. lot les work i think. but i have a full shop and lift and super tool box.

thanks for the help guys. going to pick the truck up tomorrow. sounds to me like he has the spark plug wires all wrong. the guy has no idea about working on vehicles and told me about the wires. he said it ran good before the tuneup and now he is ready for something new. told me he could get 200 for salvage so i offered him 200. what if i were to change that truck over to a carb? i thought about doing that and getting it running good then sell it.

if you can get that one running and its a good runner just swap the engines between the two and sell off the one you dont want
