Anyone got any info on swaping TBI into a Carb'd rig? I searched and couldn't really find anything. A full writeup would be awsome.

There are quite a few threads about it. Just have to look in the Fuel Injection section and search through all the random ones.

Basics: If you are going to use a TBI manifold you will need to drill out the center bolt holes to match the older style heads. Or you can run an adapter on your current manifold.

Gonna need an electric fuel pump either in tank or inline. Then its just a matter of wiring up the harness and such.

Edit: Just found the link to the old binderbulletin.org FI faq. Apparently they started a new site, but here is the link, should have almost everything you need

I swapped mine to tbi, I made an adapter plate out of some 1/4" plate to mate the tbi to my carb intake. I pulled the throttle body, computer and everything else I could grab off a donor burb. I started to strip down a wiring harness but it was a pain in the ass so I just ordered one through http://www.affordable-fuel-injection.com/. I am glad I did it was easy, labeled and everything was the right length. It looks like the price went up a little I think I paid like $200 and it was well worth it.

edit: I pulled the in tank pump and wiring out of the burb too, swapped over to my 73 tank with no issues

I changed my 383 from carb to TBI and I changed the cam and intake, cause it was going into a burb that was TBI so the wiring and sensors were there. I put headers on it so I had to weld a bung in the collector and put in a heated O 2 sensor.

Thanks guys. Keep the info commin. So far this is what I know. Im making somewhere between 275-325HP with currrent setup.

I'm going to use a spacer for my carbs intake.
I need the Throttle body(dont know which injectors), Harness, Computer (dont know which one is the best and why), Distributer, Heated O2 sensor cause I've got long tube headers, I think I'll need a custom chip burned to get max performance outta my setup and with a data cable and laptop I can get the info to have a chip made but it will run fine with just bolting everything on.

What else (sensors and such)?

For the throttle body/injectors you could probably use the stock 350 tb and injectors. If you need a little more flow you can switch to cop car injectors. As for the computer I used the stock gm unit 1227747 pretty sure the computer is the same throughout the displacements just the chip differs. For sensors if you don't need to pass smog I think the minimum is O2, throttle position, coolant temp (ECT), and manifold pressure (MAP)

1227747 are all you care about. That's the ECM part number. Inside the ECM, under the blue cover, you may care about the "BCC" which is typically a 4 letter code which indicates the application.

Looks like my friend is getting all the TBI stuff in the mail to me. I'll be able to see what injectors are in there when I get it.

Ok, TBI is in the mail. But ive got more questions. Trying to use this diagram for the wiring...

http://brochures.slosh.com/wiring/87 Chassis 1.pdf

1) Whats the idle air control actuator and will I need it?
2)Whats the "EVRV" (under idle air control) and do I need it?
3) What is the TCC solenoid and do I need it?
4) Do I need the EGR solenoid?
5) Whats the little box to the right of the O2 sensor?
6) Do I need to run the fuel pump and relay off of the computer or can I just wire the fuel pump to be on when ignition is on? Will that burn up the pump when ignition is on and engine not running?

1. IAC should be installed in the throttle body already if it is a complete unit and yes hook it up.
2. I am going to venture a guess on EVRV-electronic vacuum regulator valve? I dont recall having to deal with this at all, so hopefully someone else knows.
3. TCC solenoid is what will control your torque converter lockup depending on which trans you have. If you are running a trans w/lockup and it is already run of vacuum then you wont need to hook it up through the computer.
4. I am not running the EGR solenoid, but it is recomended to run everything you can that comes with the tbi. I am not running only because I had previously removed my emissions stuff.
5. not sure what this is, maybe a junction or something?
6. I would run the fuel pump through the relay, it is very simple to do it that way and will work as intended.

1) Yes
2) Not sure, I'm almost guessing EVAP cannister? Haven't seen a 3 wire one though.
3) Need it if 700R4
4) I fyou have to pass emissions, although it hurts nothing if you have an EGR intake, and may possibly help.
5) No clue, never seen anything like that.
6) Run the fuel pump as intended, to include the pressure switch.

I don't like that diagram, you'd be better off getting one out of the GM manual for that year. There shouldn't be unlabeled components on a wiring diagram.

search online for a '747 ECM pinout, and check what pin A4 does, as well as D2 and C11.

http://www.diy-efi.org/gmecm/ecm_info/1227747/ Very bottom of that page, however the links don't work for me here...not sure if that's on my end, or theirs. They also have/had a twiki page that they were trying to move the stuff to.

1. You'll want the IAC for sure.

2. The EVRV solenoid regulates the vacuum to the EGR valve. If you don't connect it it will set a code unless you have a chip burned to eliminate it. The EGR can help with fuel milage so if your motor has an EGR valve you just as well connect it.

3. If you're using a 700r4 and a speed sensor then use it, otherwise no.

4. Refer to 2

5. That's the MAP sensor, they forgot to mark it.

6. It's a lot safer to let the computer run the fuel pump. I usually don't use the factory oil sender to make the wiring a lot easier. Once you eliminate the oil sender it's just as easy to wire the pump relay correctly as wiring it with the key.

ok i dont mean to hijack but this is in relation to what this thread is covering.. are the cams from computer controlled motors matched or "tuned" to the computer? im gonna swap motors and was thinking i should install the cam from my factory motor thats in my truck into my new motor to keep it running right with the factory computer...

Yes. Everything in a FACTORY vehicle is matched, which is why later on there were fewer and fewer optional engine/drive trian combos. You probably wouldn't believe the number of PROM's (what is "tuned" to the vehicle) that GM had each year, I'd be willing to bet it was at least double digits for a C/K/R/V truck alone.

You can swap cams and as long as they are mild it will run, but not the way GM intended. You may or may not notice any difference, but it's there.
