i just got my 71 K5, and i think its got some carfb issues. after a while, ill be cruizin down the highway, and then gas it, and itll bog out on me, like its not getting any fuel, or waaay too much. the carb on it is an 80s qjet, and its got like sensor plugins on it or something... its weird.. also, if its not that, could it be the nylon sock deal in the fuel tank? any help is appreciated.

could be lots of stuff. Junk inside the carb. Needle and seat sticking. Filter dirty. Fuel pump going out. Strangely enough it could also be timing or your disty if the ignition is cutting out it would do that too. I would take the carb apart clean it. Replace the filter and see if that cures it

well, i just ordered a new holley truck avenger for it, maybe thatll help

wrong carb!..

Someone probably put an electronic Q-jet that needs a computer to contol it on your truck--it'll run,but dump way too much fuel, and run rich as hell..I bet the new carb eleminates your troubles, unless other things are wrong (a likely possibility--if they used that Q-jet,its a good bet other things were "moused" too...).. Tell us how it runs with the new carb!..

alrighty, just waiting on damn fedex...

mine done the same thing after rebuilding it. it was caused from the secondary valves opening too quick. all I had to do was tighten the spring for the valves to make em open later and it ran perfect.:wink1:

well if you got the truck avenger.... dont just drop it on and turn the key or you will be disappointed...

I had problems with mine.. but love it now... however i havent had it out.... wife was preggo and just had our second son on sat morning.. so in a few weeks i will be able to take the truck out... :wink1:

#1 look at the part number on the front... if it is 90670-1 call holley and get it swapped out for a new one... those are trash.. .the 90670-2 supposedly fixed the hessitation issues.. mine was worse with the new one...

put carb on...
adjust the floats - mine front and back were wrong
air/fuel screws need to be set
biggest thing I had to do was change
accelerator pump cam and discharge nozzle...

basically went to the biggest one (Black one) as recommended by holley and a .35 discharge nozzle.. or is it .035???? anyway they both dump more fuel in..... but truck likes it waaay better....

oh yeah put a new fuel filter on as that seems like your problem....
I got the glass style...

WOW now thats some good info on holley carbs man, thanks a bunch! looks like 1 more order from jegs and ill be set!

its wired...

A Q-jet for a computer contolled vehicle will have some wires going into the top of the air horn under the air cleaner.(they go inside to the "Mixture control solenoid")....the vehicle will have an O2 sensor too...and a computer of course..you could also look up the carb numbers and see what year and model it originated from..--most of them I've seen were on 82-87 GM vehicles..

I Figured it Out!!!

my ignition control module in my distributor was SH**!!!! runs great now!!! just thought i would let everyone knoe, so if they have similar symptoms, they have an idea...

its the quarter moon shaped plastic piece inside of your HEI (not sure if points and condenser style has this?) 2 wires come into it, and 2 wires go out of it on opposite sides of it. thats the best explanation i can give i think.

oh the thing with like the 5,7, or 3 pins, depending on your year?

uhhh not sure about that...

several different modules..

The module pictured above fits early HEI distributors, that have vacuum advance--other versions with more prongs are used on later ones, that have "EST" spark timing and computers, and no vacuum advance...even the 4 prong one has a "dwell advance" curcuit, that if not working, can cause sluggish performance ..some cheap china modules dont even have that curcuit!..thats why I use GM modules, usually used ones from the boneyard, rather than aftermarket "bargain" brands..you can really feel the difference between a module with the dwell advance curcuit, and those without ...
