Best place to buy the carling contura ii switches anybody?

direct...... if ya wanna buy 1000+...... :haha:

for the average joe, I found Waytek and Del City to be the easiest for Conturas.. http://www.waytekwire.com/products?clear=true

looks like Del City's got em at 20% off right now.. http://www.delcity.net/

for the boats we get em wholesale thru our distributors...

I should collect royalties for turning the intrawebs onto these.... :pimp1:

Doesn't look like delcity has the "II". Looking for the switch that has the LED top and bottom, one behind the legend and one behind a lower window or text.

Looks like I'm gona have to get a custom engraved actuator to do what I want.

Maybe I'm confused. Is the II or III just a description of the actuator and not the switch itself?

yes, it's just the cover.. the 2 has little bumps on the cover.. 3 has grooves.... any of them can have lights top, or bottom.. or pretty much any legend is available.. BUT, the prob is, as I alluded to, you can't just call carling and order 3 switches with a certain wording (legend) ya need to order 1000....

that said.. switch color, lenses and light color are all pretty easy to find, I'll go look around for ya... just finding ones with proper labeling is....

and be aware.. people will come in and show these GREAT switches they got that look just like carling off eghey, etc with lettering... they aren't even close to the quality of a carling...

there are search engines to find what distributors around the country have what switches in stock... i'll have to go look around for it.. it may actually be right on carlings page somewhere..

carling is a pain in the arse, you should see the order form for these switches! for our boat factory, I make Eddie order that sh*t, gives me a headache! :haha:

anyway, here's a pdf that shows the difference between a 2 and 3, etc, to get you started.. http://www.carlingtech.com/sites/default/files/documents/Contura-Actuator-Styles.pdf

I'll get back to ya.... been a while since I dealt with carling... I do have a whole box of various covers in black, grey, red.. with different colored lenses, etc.. but I don't have any switches....

oh, and if you are going to be playing with these, YOU NEED TO HAVE THE 2 PRONG VRT COVER TOOL, it is THE only way to get the covers off.. they show it to the right on that PDF... also I STRONGLY suggest that you run the "boxes" that you can link together to hold the switchs.. STRONGLY.. i'll go find some links for you...

Do they do a toggle/paddle style cover?

I have purchased switch panels from digi-key. You can get the link together style, and also pre- molded in different sizes. The have switches and actuators in lots of different configurations, but I didn't find the actuators with legends.

My best source for them is my local Freightliner dealer. Western Star trucks use them and have quite a few different legends. Most of them have the 2 LEDs to cover illumination and status of the switch. I just took them a VIN # ( the last 6) and got the actuators and switches separately. The actuators are about $7 a piece, but since you get them with the legend on it and don't have to buy a thousand of them....

What are you looking for in the legend? I have a new Western Star at work. Maybe it has what you want? ????

I have it in my head that Scott, (MRK5 ) said that he has some gray ones. I can't remember what they are marked with.

www.OTRATTW.com hands down. It's more catered to jeep stuff but there's many many custom switches that are pretty entertaining. He will custom package these in various different lighted and wired configurations. spst spdt dpdt etc. independent lighted uppers/lowers.. Takes a while to figure out how it all works, but once you do the possibilities are endless.

This is the place I have been buying from. Great service/shipping.

Yes. Had a couple in my exterra. And a couple in my canyon. I will run some in my 79 whenever I get back to it. Just basic Switches. No Blingy zombie switch or anything.

it'd be cool to have em say anything ya want.. death ray, Ma Deuce, smokescreen, etc... :haha:
