Carpet protection ideas?

Ya'll have me thinking. I plan on doing a full vert on it,which means the top may leak a little and I don't feel like pulling the carpet up all the time to prevent rust. I need to think about it some more before I decide for sure. I don't want a piece of rubber in there as a floor covering

. Rhino line would cost more to do the front also, but it would prolly be worth it.

Don't hit me, Mr. Moderator... I'll go back on topic... I swear!

An alternative for you would be to rhino line the floor, and then get some of those carpet floor mats, that you could just throw in the back when you know they are going to get dirty

You know my hard top NEVER leaks on my 75. We need to replace seals on the top of the Lady's 79 however. It leaks and we get wet rear floars.
What does leak is around the windows on the 75. The seals are shot and it's a easy $200 to fix that. The seals are quie honestly over complicated and easy to damage.
I have heard with the 69-72 owners that the soft tops seem to seal up better than their hard tops. Go figure. I'm trying to get a hold of the Specialty/Kayline Fasttrac and will be doing a review on it. Stay tuned for that.
As for making your truck a full convertable. Talk to YeildToMe. There are some serious structural problems your going to run into. He's gone through it and can give you the pointers. I have personaly seen both his and MT pockets converted rig and they both did any awsome job. You need to plann on a full cage when you do the conversion and you MUST tie the windsheild header into the cage or you will get sag in the fire wall and have alingment problems with the doors.
As for running without carpet.....I love it for the clean up. I have a big door mat that I currently have ovver the hump to knock down noise and heat. I'm still bare metal. The floors will bake you like that. I have rode in Big J Bears truck and he has full Rhino. There is no more heat and road noise in his truck than the Lady';s has with full carpet. The key is they need to lay it down thick around the tranny tunnel. Huculiner cannot be done thick enough for these bennifits. I hope to have mine done soon. I know sombody that does the Scorpion Bed liner and going to try that stuff out but need to finish off some minor stuff before I'm ready for it.

I've got a rusted spot at the top of the cab right by the windsheild and it just started leaking. LOL! When I do the full vert, I'm not gonna get a hard top. I'm just gonna use a soft top. It doesn't get that cold in Texas anyway.
Thanks for refering me to those two folks so I can sorta pinpoint where I need to brace everything. I wouldn't want to wheel it without a full roll cage. That's asking for it in my opinion. I'm not tired of livin just yet

I had planned on using rhino line on the back. I might as well have them do the whole thing.

That was my point, Brandy. If you read the previous 4 or so posts you read guys saying 'why carpet it'. My point is to each their own. Lara wanted advice, not someone saying 'who needs carpet'.

Herculiner on rockers does not prevent dents by the way. It was done because the rockers looked like crud and had a bit of surface rust from my 3 years living in the 'salt the roads when it snows' belt. I'm fortunate I don't anymore.

Truly I believe 'to each their own'. But sometimes the folks that have what I call a hybrid (good wheeler and reasonably nice looker) get mocked for wanting a nice looking truck. Keep reading the posts for a few more months and you will understand my point.

And by the way............I put

Here's what I plan to do; maybe it would work for your situation. I like having carpeting for day-to-day use, but wanted the RhinoLining for rust protection, and noise and heat insulation.

So, when I had the RhinoLining done, I had them spray the lining kinda thin so I could still use the carpet. Getting the carpet to work with the lining shouldn't be any real problem from what I can tell. I'm not sure if I will try to make it easy to remove or just use the standard trim pieces to hold it in place.

I figure that if I want it to be easily removable, I will just need to do cut-outs around the seat brackets and have all the edges wrapped like they do on floor mats. It wouldn't be too tough, but would cost a few dollars since I can't sew and would have to take it to my upholstery guy.

This should allow me to easily remove the carpet for wheelin', and toss it back in for day-to-day driving.

Just a thought,

Bet you could find some vinyl or some kind of rubber mat cheap at Home Depot. Yank the carpet and put it in. Only prob is that you would probably lose some sound deadening..

Lara, I think we are on the same boat. Let me give you MY opinion. My interior is completely gutted right now but only because I am replacing it all. I did not want to worry about staining the carpet, either. But at the same time, I did not want to go the spray-liner route because for one, I just couldn't see it insulating both the heat AND the noise from my interior. I've been running it without a carpet for several months and boy does it get HOT and loud in there!

I am going to put in the complete molded rubber mat from LMC in it. It comes with jute backing for insulation and I will also put some Dynamat (or equivalent) under that. I don't want to have to worry about vacuuming my interior but I also want to have a nice looking interior.

These floors are a whole lot easier to maintain than carpets and they don't stain. There is also the complete kit for front and rear. Hope this helps.

Thats exactly what Im gonna do, if I dont Rhino it. Except I might pull the jute backing off. Wont do any good to have the vinyl if the jute will still get wet. Besides the carpet getting dirty, if I stick it in the water I dont want to have to pull the interior to dry out the backing. I am more into bogging so I have a fairly good chance of getting it wet inside. If you dont bog, or cross water its not much of an issue worrying about getting wet inside.

My rig gets wet inside *every* time I go wheelin with the top off. Get back fron the trail...note dirt/dust and other poop, grab hose....<spray>...done. =)

I know everyone has their own aesthetic preferences, but I actually like the LOOK of a lined (rhino, line-X, or herc) tub. Its not warm and fuzzy, but to me, it is pretty damn sexy!. =)
