So I yanked out the carpet in my 74 blazer today. I was getting tired of the damn mildew smell from all the leaks that are coming with the rain. For you numbers guys...the carpet (front and back pieces) and all the screws and rails weighed in at 37 lbs.

i pulled the rubber matts out of my k5 4 days after buying it for the same reason. the padding underneath got wet (from mudding) and was starting to grow a science experiment. it weighed in at about 75lbs in my case. not much weight to lose on a 5000lb vehicle but every bit helps.

Well, Josh. Now it's just going to be louder and hotter in that thing. What are you gonna do to the inside now. LineX? Or.....? BTW, how did it do at truckhaven?

Hey Hoby...It still has the factory lining in it which I will eventually take out. Not looking forward to it! I really don't want to fork over $450 in new seals to keep the water out, so removing the carpet sounded like a better idea. The goal is to clean up the rust and then put some sort of liner in it (linex or rhino?), then carpet over that maybe. But that is a ways down the road...need to finish the cage and new seats and all that fun stuff.

Desert trip was great! It did very well considering the almost bald tires and serious lack of power. I think I toasted the motor on the drive home though. Has a stuck lifter now :doah:
