hey I am in the process of redoing the carpet in my 78 blazer. just wanted to share some picture.
After i got the seats out

i am going to take the carpet out of the cargo area later today or maybe tomorrow. i am going to put all new carpet in.

i'd never go back to carpet. i just know that's why it rusted out the cargo area in the first place. i actually thought about it once....but then it rained with the top off. nope not gonna happne. going with some kinda roll on stuff. debating herculiner or looking into line-x
 
the thing is that this truck is not my trail rig, and this truck is very clean so its more of a restoration

i see. well carpet was original so hop to it
 
Herculine it under the carpet...added expense? yes...but at least you wouldnt have to worry about it rusting in the cargo area. My blazer hadn't seen rain in well over a month and a half, and the top doesnt leak, but when i ripped out the carpet the insulation mat under it was damp and there was rust bubbles under the paint...luckily it was all cleaned up with a wire brush
