Wanting some info on pros and cons of a Carter 650 AFB 4bbl, mech secondaries. Anybody have one on their rig?

Not sure if it's the same, but I've got a Carter quadrajet 4bbl. Probably the same thing? It performs ok on smooth steep inclines, but I've got it to stall a few times when hitting bigger obstacles where the truck bounces and jolts a lot at low idle. It may have been the torque convertor or fuel pump and not the carb, but it was kinda annoying. To be fair, I'm not sure any carb would have done well in those cases.

The AFB and Q-jet are totally different carbs

Thanks for the info guys....I've got a line on one for $50....so trying to decide if its worth it to throw on my truck. Dont want to worry about stalling offroad. Any more info/experiences appreciated.

The Carter AFB is the same as your basic Edelbrock (but not the Edelbrock Q-Jet). Great on-road carb. Sucks off road. If you're going to go off road, there's no reason to use anything but a stock Q-Jet.
