Casting #\'s to determine ratio?

Is there a way to determine ratio by the casting # on an axle tube if it is still stock? going to pick up a 14ff tommorrow and there are 2 I"m going to choose from. be nice if I could know a ratio without pulling the cover. I guess if I had to I could spin the yoke / drum and count, if I do that what do I count into what? thanks

You would probably want to pull the cover to look at the gears any way, wouldn't ya? Or are you planning on changing the ratio? It does not take but a couple of minutes to pull the cover and check out the numbers on the edge of the ring gear. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

Done deal, picked up a 3/4T with big brakes 14B FF w/ 4.10's for $50 today, got two 2.5? gallon air tanks for $2 a piece too, with brackets to mount to my frame already on them. Been a good day. /forums/images/graemlins/pimp1.gif /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif
