I was thinking about putting a CAT in my crewcab but it was not the 15 litre 3406 but the c12.Cat 3406 or Detroit series 60 into 1 ton truck.
Discuss.
And no, i have not had any alcoholic beverages this morning. Nor have i been prescribed any medications-----yet.

Still too big and heavy for the frame at 2300lbs.
Instead I am trying to find a front drive axle and a tcase to put on my freightliner to make it 4x4 after I take out one of the tandem axles off.
I already have the whole truck running and strong. What if you took the front axle from freightliner, narrrowed it, then installed on crew cab?
By the way the freightliner frame is the same width as the frame on the chevy, trucks I am using a hitch from a pickup bolts up perfect the difference is the frame is a straight line front ro back, no curves no notches and no change in section.THE FRAME IS TO SMALL as we have been saying .
if you want a square body with that combo drop the body on the big frame and be done .
its also taller / thicker / bigger cross members but yes 34" is the std width of the frame rails on med & hd frames.By the way the freightliner frame is the same width as the frame on the chevy, trucks I am using a hitch from a pickup bolts up perfect the difference is the frame is a straight line front ro back, no curves no notches and no change in section.

Yeah that's more like what you need in a 1 ton or smaller truck.
With the small rpm range of the engine the trans is adequate.how would you add a second blower in that super tight 1/2 ton engine bay ?? hell the engine is out of the hood . . and why that big a trans ?
neat truck but about useless to drive . . prob a trailer queen .
If you seriously want to do this start looking at the Cat Topkick fire trucks. They were all Chevy with a cat engine. Find one cheap and use that as the basis for your project. I imagine with enough work (somehow) you could carve a square body and get it to work on that frame. At least then you would be starting with something that was able to support the weight. I've seen them as cheap as a few thousand but be aware that they are all air brakes....that means CDL to drive. So how far do you want to go to have a CAT motor?
