I know, this is a Chevy Blazer forum. But, I've posted up in all the other Ford forums I belong to and no luck so far. If any of you Chevy buys have Ford friends, and you know where I can score a catalytic converter from a 78 or 79 F150, 250 or 350 351/400/460 engine, please give me a shout. All the recycling shops are paying top dollar for cats these days and finding an old one is damn near impossible. I need one for my 78 F150 with a 460 and no company makes an aftermarket one with an EO number that will pass the Ca. smog nazis.

Anybody? Somebody have a neighbor with a junker Ford parked in the yard that would unbolt that cat and send it to a needy person? :D

unfortunately it is completely illegal to sell or install a used converter especially in the state of California But Magnaflow does offer a CA legal converter part number 39006 I am an exhaust technician specializing in converters so if you have any other questions ask away if I dont know the answer I can find out for you

The EO number on the Magnaflow 39006 doesn't include a 1978 Ford F150 with a 460 engine. The 351M AND 400M yes, but not the 460. In fact, I can find no aftermarket manufacturer of catalytic converters that make one with a qualifying EO number. The reason is, although Ford offered dealers the F150 4x4 shortbed with a 460, none of them sold it. Therefore, the Mitchell and Motors catalog lists my 78 F150 with a 460 and prescribes what smog devices are required to qualify for Ca. regulations. But, since no dealer sold them, no company has invested the time and effort to make a cat for my rig.

That is why I need one off of a used rig. Nobody will sell one, the junk yards can't leave them on the trucks, but I can salvage one from a privately owned rig and weld in onto my truck. If the cat is a Ford original, chances are the rather young and inexperienced smog techs around these parts won't care as long as it is there and an original Ford cat. Trust me, I've been around the block on this one. California is the absolute worst when it comes to smog parts. I even spent about an hour with a Ca. state smog referee doing research on my rig.
