Setting up a CB in the tow rig. Found this mount that bolts to the fender and looks pretty clean but would I be better off with a antenna off the center of the roof?

Vehicle to vehicle in caravan type runs, that'll work, long distances not so much as it's also very directional mounted there..

I had a short steel whip mounted on the DS corner of the rear bumper mainly used for communications bewteen myself & friends while driving somewhere or on the trail, but it didn't get out nearly as far as it should have and was very directional to that side. I kept ripping it off on trails, so I got rid of that and just using a magnet mount K40 whip on the roof. HUGE difference in output & receive range just with that location.

I spent more time than i want to admit looking at mounting options, antenna brackets, antennas, etc etc etc.. One of the things ive learned in all the net cruising and book reading is that the best place to mount a single antenna is centered on the roof of the vehicle. just some .02.

Thinking maybe going with a "little wil" magnet on the roof of my dodge. Want something short and seems like that has good reviews. Dodge is already 6'+ tall and still wanna get through drive through windows. I already have a cobra 75wxst in the rig.

I've got mine mounted to the side of the half cab on the K5, just above the box side. It is also extremely direction and has very poor range. On my Duramax I've got it mounted in basically the same place on the headache rack, and it works extremely well there.

On the Tahoe, I'll be mounting it on the swing out tire carrier with a dual band VHF/UHF and a removeable HF antenna on the roof.

Should be good with the little wil. I ended up using a wilson Flex and a mirror mount only because 99% of the radio use ill be doing will be on the trail and i can keep a better eye on it and prevent breakage on tree limbs, the other 10% will be close convoy to get to the trail. Definitely if range was a bigger concearn id go mag with a mount on the roof. Good choice.:waytogo:

This is on the tow rig for communicating during convoy. The trail rig has a cheap magnet mount on the center of the roof and when trees hit it, it just falls over and I have to set it back up.
