Has anyone ever mounted a ball mount to the bumper of a K5? I kinda like the idea, but i thought that the bumpers arent quite a flat edge, would that be a problem or are ball mounts adjustible?

Here kinda where i would wanna mount it.

I don't think I understand your question. The mounting surface of the antenna is flat, and the more contact you have the better. A body panel is a better mounting point since whatever it's attached to is the ground plane of the rf signal, but a bumper will work. The ball joint itself is adjustable. Once it's bolted in place it's only adjustable on one axis though, so check it before you drill it. Once you mount it run it through a tennis ball to save your paint.

well you pretty much ansered the queston anyway.

I really dont wanna drill into the body, but i wanna run a 102 in whip

mount it to the bumper then. You just won't have the best distance ever. Not a big deal on a trail anyway.

For having the range would i be better of mounting a wilson 1000 to the roof? cause there is already a old mount up there. Or could I build a braket of the bumper, or would that be about the same as the ball mount?

the bracket would mount it a little better, but you still wouldn't have a ground plane. I don't know enough about the Wilson's to say if they are worth the $$ or not, but the roof is the best location for the best propagation of the conversation about conservation. Ha, I rhymed. I had to keep going. It made me chuckle. But yeah, the roof is the best spot for an antenna in the RF sense, but it's a good location to get beat up by trees too.

my thought behind a 102 was i park my truck in the garage, and i could just tie the whip down to the rain gutter. and if i ever need to use it, its alot less work than screwing the antenna to the roof.

The 102 will work just fine, it would just work better on a body panel. Your rig is pretty cherry though, so I understand not wanting to do that. They make set-ups that are made for bumper mounts, so you may want to research that before drilling holes. I'll see if I can find what I'm talking about and post up a link for you.

I will tell ya the truth, my rear bumper on my truck is pretty beat, so i really dont mind drilling some holes in the bumper

I can't find what I'm talking about anyway. Mount it to the bumper. It'll be fine for common usage.

Ive done it. It is a PITA To mount. The bumper isnt flat so you have to build up spacers or washers inside to get the mount to go flat. My bumper was tweaked pretty bad (it was smiling), I replaced it eventually.
