Thats a UHF mount . See if a coax threads on to it . If it does , go buy a wilson 1000 and screw it right on to it after you loosen it up and retighten it so its centered in the gasket again , someone hit a low branch or a parking structure already :pimp:

Or just buy a wilson 1000 and replace that mount. Hole should be the same size. If you mount a Wilson to that the load is going to be mounted incorrectly. Just replace it.

Hows it going to be mounted incorrectly ? Metal threads to metal threads , metal center pin to metal center pin . Works fine that way :thumb:

But yeah a new mount may be a good idea , just to have new coax , they don't last much more than 20 years anyway !!

is it really that old.when i had the carpet out of my truck i could see alot of the coax until it goes thru the headliner and i really dont wanna tear that apart.

and is there a peice missing or is that how that mount supposed to be.

If you look at the pic , it looks like it was uncovered for awile anyway . better connection would be on a fresh clean one .

wow that kinda sucks i have a nice headliner that was put in and really dont wanna tear that apart.

i think what i should do is get a magnetic K40 or Wilson 1000.because i do park my truck in a garage so

If your careful , you wouldn't damage the headliner . The mounts like that allow a better connection to ground for the antenna on the shield side of the coax . And you can take it off if you need to .

what i will do later in the week i know of a cb shop.i will drive the truck down there and see what they have to say

two more question.
for a magnetic antenna wilson 1000 or K40.

and for a magnetic antenna were do i run the coax so it doesnt get pinched?

thanks

That is true but on a wilson 1000 the load ends up screwing down to the roof. If you screwed a Wilson to this mount the load would be 6 inches higher. Not a big deal I guess but not correct.

You can solder the mount to a 6 foot pole welded to the truck , screw the antenna on and it still works .

I hear what your saying , the Wilson should toch the body , but thats for looks , not for anything else , the threads is what does the grounding :thumb:

The threads are what does the grounding but the load does offer support and is not made to be up like that. Take a look at the Wilsons that the load is made to be off the mounting surface and they are built differently, not for cosmetic (well some) reasons but for longevity in that mounting position.
