hi i recently found a Panasonic 23 channel RJ-3200 cb/pa. i was looking in the communication section and couldn't find anything about it, it turns on but i can't get any sound out of it, any ideas whats wrong with it?
If it has a PA/CB switch make sure its in the CB position, and the squelch is off as suggested..some CB's have the audio wired into the mike wires ,so if the mike cord or plug is chafed or the wires are busted inside the insulation you wont get any audio output..speaker could have croaked too, after 40 years!..try plugging an external one in,if it has a jack on the back for one..
You need to run a SWR check on that antenna. Most newer radios have limiting circuits in them that shut down the output if the antenna is not tuned correctly. I'd say your radio is burnt out though. There are a few good shops you can get to fix it, but a 23 channel rig is pretty out dated unless you're doing it for period correct look or just like old radios.
The little $40 Cobra 19DXIV you get at Walmart is a decent little radio and more radio than 80% of offroaders really need.
alright i'll look into getting one, and btw i was pulling the antenna cable out so i can check it over and i found a part that spit so its not really connected
If it were keyed up with a busted antenna wire or none hooked up to it,it may have fried output transistors..you can make a "dummy load" out of a #47 bulb, hook it to the center conductor wire and the braid on a hunk of coax ,if it lights up when the mike is keyed up it is transmitting OK..
23 channel CB's are antquie, but they were a true 5 watt output if not more too--so many users still like them..
