i could have sworn there was a thread on the subject already but be darned if i can find it. Im gonna put a cb radio in my k5 and wondered where everyone mounted their recievers in the cab and where you mounted your antennas so i can get some ideas on the best place to put mine thats accesible but out of the way at the same time

The antenna is mounted on top of the roof, and it unscrews so it doesn't have to ride up their when not used.....and the cb unit is in front of the console. I just made a bracket for it and ran the cable under the carpet.

I put one in my 75 K5 years ago where the A/C duct would have been if it had A/C (mine didn't)--in the center of the dash above the ash tray...it fit nicely,I got a dash panel from a boneyard to cut up ,instead of using the original so I could put it back on when I sold the truck...was a good spot fpr it,easy to reach and see,GM should have put the radio there...

My 72 K5 had one mounted in the console,I tried hanging ot off the roof but after gashing my head on it twice I decided to hide it in the console to deter theft as well as keep my head from being cut again....in my van I made a shelf across the roof and mounted a CB and scanner up there,it was high enough so my head would not hit it..

same setup only I have a fire stick mounted to my driver mirror

I got mine it a AC vent space (smaller radio) above the AC controls. My antenna is on my front bumper just to the right of the passenger side light

ryoken: how do you hang your mic?

I don't at this point.. :haha: when I get around to it, I'll mount the clip either all the way to the front of that panel, or all the way on the back, on the vertical behind the light, haven't decided yet... whichever works best for keeping the cord out of the way.. for now it's just hung over the B-hoop...

i had a little cobra 19 in the air vent but didnt like the location or the radio. id lie a larger radio and i want a "factory look if possible. might try hiding it in the console or something

All you guys with your fancy new nice radios.

I have CB's in all my vehicles, that is 3 radios, and 2 radios in my closet, and have spent less on those than what one new radio would cost.

Anywhoozle, I have Side-mic Cobra 29's in the K5 and the F250, one is a 1991 and the other is a 89.

My K5 was an ex-gov't truck so it had holes drilled in the inner roof, so I went ahead and drilled one more for the bracket, and mounted it overhead, which I have decided is where all CB's need to go, out of the way, easy to reach, etc.

I also have a Ray Jefferson Titan Marine radio mounted under the passenger seat, It is used mainly as a weather radio/long distance radio.

What is funny is, the truck still has no radio in the dash, never did, doubt it ever will, I have been making by with a boombox between the seats.

Whoops, forgot my antenna setup, The K5 has a Wilson little wil with a 32" whip for the CB, and a drip rail mounted 16" whip for the VHF.
And the Ford has dual '4 fiberglass antennas on homemade mirror mounts.

Don't forget to use an SWR meter to position your antenna, or take it to a CB shop. You have to "tune" the antenna to get best range and reception, and prevent burning out the unit.
