Here's the one I'm getting for the truck.

Might pick up a few of these for the other rigs. I'm wanting to get one for the house too since we're buying a house with really bad cell phone coverage, just not sure what yet.

I tried looking into HAM radios but that sent be down a rabbit hole and somehow I ended up looking at BearScanner trunked systems.

I've got the Uniden Bearcat Pro (PC78LTW) that looks pretty much identical to Ryokens Cobra. I really just wanted the NOAA...not many people to talk to around here.:o

Factory reconditioned direct from Uniden was $67 shipped.

Well I has a small uniden when I first started wheeling but never could get it to work good enough, always got lost because no one could hear me.
I started trucking and I put it in my truck and first trip I heard a guy on the radio that tweaks them so I went there and he tweaked it good enough that I could get about 10 mile range.
A few months later I couldn't hear anybody so I went and got me the Cobra 29 Blue tooth with weather. Got it tweaked at the radio shop in that truck stop only up to 25Watts, next step is 100 watts but that was going to take more time so I skipped it.
I am still trying to figure out what to use in my Burb for off road: one tech told me the cobra 25 is better than the 29 for off road, another guy said the 29 is better for everything, :dunno:, but one thing everyone agreed cobra is the cheapest good quality and the easiest to tweak for more power, took them about 10 minutes to go from 4w to 25w.

I've got a nice little Texas ranger that's been modified a little. It's not in the suburban yet but neither is the eng/trans/Tcase.

Cobra 148GTL, too much of a rdio for what I use it for, but it fits nicely at the front of the center console and it's what I had to use, originally from the rig I used to drive OTR. :D

cobra 19.cheap and reliable.40 bucks at wallyworld.gets about a mile of range which is usually good enough.

Well maybe I should dig mines out not that I ever used it, I was given a siver Cobra 150 ( I think) my co-worker said it was modified with 2 side bans I had a lifted step side chevy then wich was stolen shortly after purchase so It never went in so it's been sitting in my garage, shed, and attic for bout 18 years ! now I've got the monster 88 k5 I think I'll dig it out. Just gotta figure out how to use the dayum thing. Any info about side bans would be appreciated ! thanks :D

I believe that should say side bands. :thumb:

I don't have one installed in the Blazer, but I do have a handheld Cobra CB that goes with me when I'm in the woods. It isn't the greatest, but it's better than nothing, especially when there is no cellphone reception. It's come in handy on a few trips.

I keep telling myself I'll get a real CB when I put in a Tuffy center console.

I just got mine installed last week. Very excited to finally be able to be aware of what's happening on the trail... :doah:

I have a Uniden PRO538W 40-Channel CB Radio. We were able to tune the antenna and get it to a 1.2 SWR! pretty stoked. Haven't actually talked to anybody on it yet, but I have listened to some crazy dude out of Louisiana on it. Dude must have some crazy powerful radio to be bouncing the signal off of the atmosphere such that I can hear it! :yikes:

From what I understand, skip talk (Picking up CB signals over huge distances) has less to do with radio power and more to do with atmospheric conditions. I don't really understand how it works. I've talked to people in Hawaii with a cobra 19 twice now, and its been overcast and raining both times. I'd have figured bad weather would block a good signal...

Here's the guy I've talked to. http://www.youtube.com/user/393NWC#p/u/5/UuGt4z0GStk

Heres another skip talk video from 393NWC http://www.youtube.com/user/393NWC#p/u/18/TtXy6rf11io

I'm down to 2 now.A galaxy 959 I got for Xmas and had tweaked out then put back in the box and a galaxy 99 I got from a coworker for $10 and came with a new astatic mic.The 99 puts out 60 wats on the am setting and on the side band I can talk to people 20 miles away easy.I keep the 99 in my jimmy but it rarely gets used anymore.

Cobra 29 LTD. I just use it for trail driving. They are also good for when you are stuck on the interstate and not moving and don't know why. You can always hit the truckers' channels and find out what's going on. It's a great CB but I wish I would have gotten the WX model for the weather though.
