ccarley's '89 V1500 Suburban Post #38: True Track install

Ten or so years ago, I had a 90 K5 that grenaded the rear 10 bolt taking off from a stop sign one sunny afternoon. I stripped 7 teeth off the ring gear and the pinion gear was no better. I had 33's on ol' Bubba and I never flogged him off road.

Anyway, not being as informed as I am today, I rebuilt the 10 bolt and I had an Auburn limited slip put in. That Auburn was great and I'm getting another one if I stick with a 10 bolt in Fillmore.

I'll look into the True Track too since I want something better than a peg leg Sub.

So I'm really trying to keep this Suburban looking good, while at the same time making it better than it was. (That was easy, so far LOL!)

I still need a way to mount my Hi-Lift either inside or outside. I like having the "push bar" on the front, however it does make it more difficult to access the engine bay. It's not too pretty anymore either; I guess the salty air at Usal Beach was too much for the cheap chrome. All it is now is a good place to mount my fog lights (which I use almost daily on the way to work).

I kind of dig the idea of having a full grille guard. My old Wagoneer had a factory grill guard, and the Hi-Lift got mounted to that. Simple & strong. I may look for a CUCV grille guard...

Another idea that's been floating around in my head is a supercharger. I remember that B&M had an under-hood roots blower for a TBI engine, but of course you can't hardly find them. I saw a Whipple roots TBI blower locally (San Jose, well, local enough) but I don't happen to have a spare $1500 at the moment, LOL. Anyway, anyone ever install one and have pictures? I wonder what the smog guys will think if I end up finding one when I have the $$$.

Why do I want a roots style blower? Why not? :) Oh yeah, not looking for high HP. Still wanting torque, and the ability to have power when we go to areas of high altitude (Lake Tahoe, etc.).
