Trying to find out for sure what the wheelbase would be on a crew cab long box, to crew cab short box. Wheelbase for the crew is 164.5, and shortened would make it 150.5"? Is this right??

Also remember seeing a post somewhere the rigth way to shorten it, not just cutting the back of the frame off and moving the perches forward. I think it needs to be cut under the cab, and back of the frame?

149.5" would be perfect for a short box. My '87 CC was bought originally by a forestry company. They shortened it to 149.5" and added a fabricated utility box. One frame cut in front of the spring hanger, welded and fishplated.

I want it to look stock, so that would make sense with that measurement. Do you have any pics of yours where it was shortened??

I can take some...prolly get them up later today.

Also read the other thread on 84' crew long to short box, looks pretty straight forward, but pics are always nice. Whenever you get them, post 'em up.

Check out TRUCKS on spike TV. Thay made a mid 60's chevy into a short bed. I cut my CC down to 139" wb with a 65" flat bed.

Not too much to look at really...especially with all the "camo-rust". :p:

so they took 15'' out right there so swb bed would fit? i thought some of the frame had to be cut off the rear also for a swb bed?

What about the gas tanks?? Read that when you shorten one, need to use the SWB tanks?? Don't really want to do that, and tho I do want a Blazer/Burb tank, don't want to do that just yet either.

But I think you need to cut 6" off the very rear part of the frame. Found this link:

Mine has a K5 style tank now, and I didn't do the shortening job. To lose 15" of wheelbase you'd have to take 15" out where mine is spliced. Rear overhang cut to suit I guess. 6" less behind the spring hangers sounds about right though.

Old post, but anybody have anymore pics of the frame after shortening it??? Also want to make sure to cut 14" between the cab mount and hanger, and 6" off the back of the frame. Only want to do this once, and want it to look right, not half assed...

just a few inch off mine. :eek1::doah::haha:

about 40" of frame off the back.

and rear axle and suspension up 33" closer to cab. now 132" wb. and fliped 56" springs backwards to get hangers even closer to cab area and keep frame short.

I think he wants to put on a complete short box off of a different pickup though.

i know i just bustin his ba!!s :haha:

i got 4' 7" of frame behind cab. 3.5" for cap of cab to bed then 4' of bed area and 3.5" of bumper build area.

I might take it to MetalFab to get the frame shortened this week, want to get the measurements right so they know where to cut and weld it. Getting it done pretty cheap, so if some measurements are off, then that will raise the price. And being on unenjoyment, can't afford to waste any money....
