So I got a cclip eliminator kit for my steet trucks 10 bolt. Long story short I got stuck with a "race only" ball bearing version. Im trying to see if I cant manage to find a tapered bearing to replace the ball bearing for DD duty. Im not worried about leaks, just worried about wiping the bearings fast from side to side movement. Ive got internal axle tube seals to handle keeping the oil in the pumpkin.

So I start looking at bearing specs. The Strange ball bearing is 1.562 ID and 3.150 OD. So I start my search off just looking at off the shelf 9in bearings and what do you know, Set 20 big end ford bearings are the same ****ing size... Im saying to myself, you've got to be kidding me with this. Could it really be that simply after going back and forth with strange about how they dont make a taper bearing cclip kit for the truck rears?

I swear between redrilling 5x5 OBS rotors for 5x4.75 and possibly being able to adapt an "add on kit" to make a street cclip kit for big flange 10 bolts Im gonna have to open up an e-store...

I am all about beef up parts .

and years as a mechanic I have seen a lot .

but I have never in person seen a busted c-clip from a shaft . I am in a area with lots of power toy options such as 4x4 / cars / trucks / 1/4 mile & 1/8 mile stuff and so on .

I think unless your plan is total trash it bash it why even need to try and do this kit .

and if I was to ever do the swap to non c-clip I would just go to ford outer ends and be done with fast / easy off the shelf parts if I ever need parts .

Well if the set 20s fit then it is off the shelf part but...

The story went like this: O look they have street cclip eliminators, read good reviews, ok lets get them. Unpack them and read instructions to cut the housing, eh maybe I dont need this, call strange to ask if they work with parking brake and get a yes. So eff it Ive got em lets put them in. Cut the housing and find out theyre the wrong ends and they only make ball bearing ends for my housing.

So basically Im stuck using a cclip eliminator or getting for ends welded on and I really dont want to do that. Once again Im off on my own in uncharted territory.

By no means am I trying to argue that I need them, I just kinda have no choice now. Im going to try to make them as right as possible. Going to use studs rather than bolts, try for tapered bearings too, and possibly even weld the pocket to the flange if I can think of a way to do that.

Ford ends are your best solution. Keep in mind though that Ford used two types of bearings and one requires an internal seal while the other uses a seal attached to the bearing.

Yep. The clip eliminator uses a seal on the wedding ring and an internal seal bearing.

The tapered bearing I'm going to use is the same way just doesn't have an external o ring like the Moser/strange ones. I'll just put a little silicone on the back lip of the bearing, not that I need it since it will never see gear oil
