in my 1995 c2500 i got a tape player ,seen a 1998 truck with a cd and tape player looks like same dash. are they interchangeable? are all the plugs the same?

It could be, or it could be wrong. 95 was the changeover year for the plugs, and I show there are two different wiring adapters for 95-02. One design is a very compact plug, while the other is a larger rectangular plug.
The compact design is approximately 'L' shaped and I know is the more modern version that is in my 96 Safari, my 94 Astro had the older style. So, the only way to know for sure is to check the plug you have against the plug in the other truck. That's the downside to being in a changeover year.

ok if i get it right it means that if my 1995 radio has a compac L shape plug i can fit a newer style cd player. any ideal how much i should pay for a scrap yard gm original cd player?
