It seems all the ones I have, A sony, and a pioneer both skip when I hit even small bumps. Is there a decent unit or brand that doesn't skip? as much??

i don't have a stereo in the blazer, but i used to drive "slamed" trucks, with really really stiff suspension, and i have always run alpines, and mine only skiped on big bumps, like hooking the frame on a train track at 45mph
i have two buddies that run, oh man brain fart....um its a inexpensive brand, in their wheelers like jensen or blupunk..and they swear by them..say they never skip..

I have a 6 year old Sony changer hooked up to my Sony deck and I don't think its ever skipped .

They even use the same unilink cable , and the new changers have mp3 playback natively .

I am getting one sometime , prolong the life of my deck .

I have personally had the best luck with Alpine for skipping. My pioneer does pretty good as well. You may also look into decks that have a memory. Most of them are around five seconds. Sony is known for this with their decks and portable discman units. It is called ESP ( electronic shock protection ) for the sony's. It basically stores future memory and plays back about 5 seconds, so when you hit a bump it is still playing the memory. This may not help on washboard and harsh trails were you are consistently skipping the unit.

One of the main reasons I went with JVC is because it takes alot too get one to skip. A few years back I was at a car stereo shop and Panasonic had a 10 sec read ahead that was suposta elimidate most skips also.

get one with a 20+ sec buffer and you should be good personally I never had one skip. I just picked up a jvc and it hasn't skipped yet with a 40 sec buffer

Well I have and Aiwa that I love, but it always skipped in the Datsun and never in the Chevy (which is odd because the Datsun rides a lot better than the Chevy). I've always changed the deck between the two trucks because I'm too cheap to buy a 2nd deck. Anyway, I've decided that it is because of the extremely solid mounting point I have for it in the Chevy, and the one in the Datsun being a little more loose. Seems like the tighter the better.

panasonic makes a cd player that has an anti shock processor, that stored the data for 10 to 20 seconds , i had 1 it worked great!!

it was a cqdp-975

i used pioneer and jvc, never had a problem with skipping. Sony sucks ass IMO for car audio

Amen! Alpine all the way. Pioneer if I couldn't get Alpine....

My Panasonic has NEVER skipped. Bouncing over rocks or down trails nothing had affected it. Unlike the factory one in my old F-550 flatbed. That thing would skip if you sneezed in the cab.....

Pioneer 8600

SWEET deck and hasn't skipped once in my Blazer or my XJ

I used to have a Kenwood deck that would skip with the right amount of bass from the sub.. but that deck sucked

I recently ordered a Clarion DXZ945MP. I'll let y'all know if it skips or not.

I just put a Alpine CD player in the kids car. Sounds awesome and doesn't skip On the RR track!! gonna get another for the wifes blazer.

I had a kenwood it skipped.I run a pioneer that only skiped once and awhile, you really had to slam into something hard.I fixed it so it never skips and plays about 1500 songs.Yes IPOD with the cheapy broadcast to your head unit kit.I think there supposed to have some thing like 20 minute buffer against skipping.Iborrowed one from a friend at first.I will never go back. Jon
