The old CDR with busted rubber elbow fitting, goes to the two hoses on the intake, 1 either side.

This piece is no longer manufactured, so we need to fab one up. Steel would be the best choice, would last longer than rubber.

The main body has been cut, and drilled... ready for two short tubes to connect jumper hoses to.

17apr11-cdrelbow-04.jpg

The first smaller pipe getting ready to be fish mouthed with a hole saw.

17apr11-cdrelbow-05.jpg

The end result, coped out for a fit up to the main body.

Testing fit up.

17apr11-cdrelbow-07.jpg

Cutting short tube to length. Cut off wheel installed. Ghetto Fab Shop style.

17apr11-cdrelbow-08.jpg

Fit up for tacking, and welding.

17apr11-cdrelbow-09.jpg

First one welded, ready for second pipe.

17apr11-cdrelbow-10.jpg

The Ghetto Fab Shop setup, Eastwood welder is the bomb!

17apr11-cdrelbow-12.jpg

Just a shot of some Ghetto Fab tools! :-)

17apr11-cdrelbow-13.jpg

Pressed for time, I choose function over form by just welding on the bottom in a less than desirable visual finish, but functions perfectly. :-)

17apr11-cdrelbow-14.jpg

"Finished" product. Leak testing and painting to be done.

17apr11-cdrelbow-15.jpg

"Ghetto Hydro Testing" for leaks. One pinhole leak found, fixed no problems.

17apr11-cdrelbow-16.jpg

Getting dipped in the Ghetto Dip Tank.

17apr11-cdrelbow-17.jpg

Sweet! Thick ass coat of paint, should take about 300 days to cure! HA HA!

17apr11-cdrelbow-18.jpg

The elbow's new resting place for the next day or so, allow it to fully cure before installing. Dipping allows paint to get all in the inside for a nice protective coat.

As soon as it cures, Ill post pix on the install.

Nice.

Though, I have to ask, ever thought about putting a single plane J-code intake on?

Yes, I have. Im watching ebay for one right now... kinda short on the money yet.

Do they have the same fittings for the CDR?

I just looked up a new EGR, its $225! Dont think I need it from what I read.

My only question that is a consideration, is the CDR hookup.

Any insight?

Thanks,
Andrew

Totally different (and easier) CDR setup.

I know of a few places that will sell you bolt in J code intakes. Not terribly expensive either. I got mine for under $100 shipped and it was NIB with GM parts tags still on it.

One hose that goes into the valve cover and to the CDR, the CDR, and one hose that goes into the intake manifold. All on the passenger side.

Not sure if it's the same CDR or not. I've heard of guys adapting the 6.5L CDR's to work and those are apparently still commercially available.

il get pics up asap im just gonna bring it to my buddy and have him clean it up in his steamer.. yes i do take paypal
