So...who's actually replaced theirs? On the J-code engines it's a big brass hockey puck looking thing with a tube running out of it sitting on the passenger side cylinder head. It's basically a diesel PCV valve for the uninitiated.

Recently discovered that well...not many people must replace them as they're harder than **** to find from the aftermarket (ie non-existent as far as I can tell) and only www.Rock-Auto.com seems to have them other than GM dealers.

I managed to get one for $41 from RA while the local GM dealerships wanted $71. Everyone else up here including NAPA, CarQuest, AutoZone, AdvanceAuto (Kragen, Checkers, Shuck's, etc), and two local chains had nothing for me. They all returned the military specific part number as obsolete and the civilian CDR valve part number wouldn't bring up any aftermarket suppliers. NAPA couldn't even find anything under the NSN the military used for it.

Anybody else found a source for them? The RA one that showed up was in a 11 year old AC Delco box so I'm thinking these are getting rare and I might want to buy a few...dozen...

Define worn out?

It was definitely oily...but that would be expected...didn't feel much different...just looked like a 20+ year old part that breathed in and exhaled out oily residue.

One guy over on Steel Soldiers replaced his and it was literally packed full of stuff but mine didn't seem to be all that bad.

crap i just bought one from the dealership, it was like $70. i replaced almost all my gaskets and seals and it started to leak almost right away, so maybe this will help out.

most places it sems to be listed under a pcv valve. they can usually be cleaned out by running some diesel through it till it comes out fairly clean

I ran into the same thing several years ago when I tried to replace it (mine had obviously failed because of the oil build up in the intake). I wound up removing the CDR and putting in a vent breather with an oil seperator on it...not sure if I'm that happy with it because I still get a little oil blow-by and a little smoke coming from it.....but it works.

Just digging this up again.

Guy over on www.SteelSoldiers.com got his hands on a literal ton or two of the HMMWV/CUCV CDR valves. From my experience putting a civy CDR valve on my CUCV they should work if the J-code truck CDR valves mount similarly to the C-codes.

At any rate he is selling them for a hell of a deal and has a LOT of them. Lemme know if you want to get in touch with him.

I bought one new from Napa for about 60 bucks with the employee discount applied to it. Just tell them you need a PCV valve for your year of 6.2L

Some odd dohickey showed up that wasn't the military or the civilian part. No way it could have worked either.

The local NAPA tried running the GM, AC Delco, and military part numbers and got nowhere other than "obsolete part - discontinued".

to dig this up again... looking to replace my cdr valve that looks like the original and have not been able to locate one. Rock Auto seems to only list pcv with pictures of what definitely looks like a pcv. Any idea of a part number. Napa and Autozone and the local Chevy Dealer do not have the ability to get one.

Thanks

A related question....Is the oil filler cap on a 6.2 a vented type??..mine was not original when I got it,and I tried a few different caps I had lying around until I found one that fit tightly and didn't flop around loose like the one that came on it when I got it..I noticed the original ones I saw on junkyard motors (and should have grabbed!:doah:) ,were vented and look like the same ones an Olds 307 would use, that have a very similar filler pipe............................................................I'm wondering if running the "sealed" cap I now have on it (that looks like one off an older 350) ,would increase chances of pressure buildup in the crankcase or cause more blowby?...

The early style CDR like that was discontinued in favor of the newer style that sits in the valve cover. Before you replace yours, take it off, pour diesel in it, shake it up, pour it out. Do this in both sides until it comes out clean. I read somewhere that 90% of the time they're just plugged up.

I have two CUCVs and I flushed both CDRs with diesel and they ran like new. I think these get replaced way to often when they just need cleaned.

I know the military considers them replaceable wear items. Take off and toss. Heard similar things from diesel mechanics.

Doubt that diaphragm inside is very heavy duty.

Ya I bet there only good for one cleaning and then I would probably replace them. I dont remember having to replace them when I was in the Army, but CUCVs were brand new then.
