So I threw away my factory center consol. I want to design a center consol with maybe 2 6x9's in it. The ideal measurments would be: 12" W, 16" H, 14" long. Also, incoporate a small indention to keep random small things on top.
Have you seen, or built anything similar? What direction would the 6x9's face? All design ideas are welcome. Picturs, drawings would be nice too.

I've heard of people building subs into a center console.

Doesn't seem like the right place for a mid/tweet combo....like you said, how do you point the speakers in a direction that makes any sense??

JL Audio made a woofer they called a "Stealth Box" for Tahoe's/ Burbs. It was like an extension of the center console.

Like Greg pointed out, hard to decide on were to place a sub/tweet in a consol. Id like the concept of a "multiuse" consol. It would also be nice if it resembled a factory consol, just not the cheesiness of one.

My buddy cut holes in the side of his console and mounted 6.5"s in each side. Turned out good, but it made his console smaller than it already was.

Placing speakers in the center of your vehicle will destroy any left/right bias (stereo seperation) and thus any spacial imaging your stereo would otherwise possibly accomplish. In other words, might as well run your stereo mono if you put anything besides subwoofers in the center. I can help you with this though, if you still want to do it.

It's made out of MDF wood with a thick black lacquer finish. also you can't see it in the pic.but there is a hidden compartment under the cup holders.

The speakers are after market.

Well it's a pretty slick mounting job on the door panels. Good enough that I had to ask... :D
