by the time you build a custom one you will have wished you had just bought the tuffy, and I bet it wont be as nice looking either. unless you have a full sheet metal shop with sheel metal sheer's bending breaks, and other sheet metal tools you would need I would not bother. the tuffy is powdercoated too. I dont work for tuffy either.

eh hem......

I think mine puts a Tuffy to shame.... :p: :o :haha:

I'm goin' to have to agree thats pretty sweet.
how'd you make it ?

P.S. are you taking orders? j/k

Hey thanks man.... :D

It's a composite fiberglass.. Pretty indestructable stuff. My console is done in 3/16ths, tho it's available in most thicknesses..

Basically you just cut it up like you would plywood (tho it requires diamond-tipped blades)

There are a few ways to assemble it... I opted for the easiest method at the time, 1" x 1" wood strips on the interior corners, epoxied in place..

It can be tabbed with fiberglass strips tho (thats the way the little removable tray was made), or better yet, they make the composite in an angle iron shape. Using that bonded in to the corners as opposed to the 1" x 1"s would have been sweet, but I didn't have any of it at the time..

prime and paint as you see fit.....

It's an amazing product... Not particularly cheap, but worth it imo..

At some point, I may decide to start making some items for sale... Dashs, interior panels, etc.... Another of my projects that hasn't come to light yet... :o

Thanks again for the props...

i used a large ammo can. i used the stock brackets on the bottom, it's tall enough for me to lean on (im 6'4") comfortably and cost 14.95. you can find them on ebay as well, but i got mine at a surplus store. you can add hinges and a lock set up for whatever it costs at home depot. if interested pm me and ill get you a pic and demisions

Ditto what rdn2blazer and I said yesterday you can't go wrong with tuffy. You'll ed up spending $500.00 in supplies and time and then be pissed that it is not the way you wanted it. By the way ryoken, I enjoyed looking at your "headwound2" pic more than the box. JK

Well, Mr funny man, my console was about $75 in materials and 10hrs in labor...
